So, I'm on my way to class last night, and get stuck at a red just before the freeway on ramp. It's 2 lanes that narrows up to one after the light, and I like to get ahead if I can, since it seems like too many people get on the freeway at 20mph, and we have a lot of semis around here that move at 70mph. So I'm in the right, and some dude in a Scion TC is in the left, light changes, I go like normal pulling out in front, and he just guns it half way through the intersection. I decided that I wouldn't just get in front, but be a jerk about it, so I run it up to the top of 2nd and put like 20-25 cars on him. Get on the freeway, everything's fine with me going about 65 and the same guy goes to pass me. I'm thinking fine, he wants to go faster I don't care, I just didn't wanna get stuck behind a car that can't accelerate as I get on the freeway. When his front bumper gets to my door, he nails it, again. Apperantly he thought he'd have a better chance from a roll, so I decided to disprove his theory and get on it ending his pull with him only having 1 car on me, and run it up through 3rd waving goodbye as I pass, and into 4th a bit, and put like 40-50 cars on him....hard to tell since he was so far back. Then when he goes to pass like a minute later, I look over and he's just driving normal and totally ignores me like nothing happened. It seems like it's people in Scions that try to race me more than anyone else, and when they get stomped they act like nothing ever happened, which seems kinda lame since they wanted to race to begin with. Though I'm sure if I did nothing they'd brag to their friends about how their Scion can take a modified Mustang. I really just don't get the mentality of people that do that, I mean, what's the point? Of course, not like this was any big kill or anything given the vast discrepency in horsepower....it was sorta like Seabiscuit vs. My Little Pony.

maybe he knew that being in a scion he NEEDED to thump on it to get on the highway at the right speedjust like you were thinking.. never been on a scion board, but i bet theres a post that says something like "whats up with these mustang guys, im drivingin the left laneand evertime i caught up to him he had to punch it and prove that his 10mpg car...."

yeah and if it was seabiscuit you would have been spanked. dont talk sh*t about scions please. you are like some of the other ignorant people on here talking about hondas not knowing what they speak of and over exaggerating the story. no chance you put 20-30 on him at a light unless you have 600 horses. and based on your 1/4 mile times in your sig you definitely dont. you just need to deflate your ego by about 40-50 cars and snap back to reality. tC's are not that slow and they can stay side by side with stock5.0 fox bodies.

 

The last time I had seen a scion xb, it was going ... very slowly. I passed, and it was two older ladies. As well, I know someone who is quite large .. and decided to buy the scion xb, due to the fact it's the only vehicle he found that wouldn't have to be modified. All scion drivers are loooosers. Dude, I've been beat by cars with less than 600 horses but more than me and they put at least 20-30 cars on me by the top of 2nd. My 2nd gear tops out at around 75-80 because of my tall gearing, so it's not like I'm saying when I had x amount of cars I was only moving at 50-55mph. And considering my car prolly has like 2.5x more power at the wheels than a scion, and when I jumped on it we were already half way through the interesction rolling at 20mph or so, why is it so unbelievable that a car witharound 2.5 times the power of another car wins with that large of a margin from a 20-80mph roll? You're the one exaggerating if you think it takes 600hp to have a margin like that over a 160hp car. A tC is what, a high 15 second car? And mine runs low 13's with poor traction and crappy gearing(which means it does better from a roll), that's like a 2.5 second difference, which in a 1/4mi is f'ing HUGE. I'm not trying to bash on imports, look in other threads and you'll find that I often defend many of them in some of the great flame war threads. And apperantly you misunderstood my analogy, Seabiscuit was a racehorse, My Little Pony was a child's toy, so my analogy was that of my car which has a built up engine in it(Seabiscuit) vs a 4cyl economy car(My Little Pony), and it was the only one I could think of that involved horses, as in HORSEpower, but apperantly you missed that. It was a joke, lighten up.

 

40-50 cars seems a little excessive, especially if he wasn't slamming on brakes[8D]. Should've been more like 4-7 cars depending. TCs are chick cars, they are designed to be "cute" in a female's eyes. Why a staright guy would ever want to be seen driving one is beyond me. That's how I view them anyway, not trying to bash them or anything (they are decent cars),but if they were supposed to be performance cars, Toyota missed the boat big time!

As far as why Scions and other "ricers" are always trying to race people that are out of their league..simple ansewer, they are usually teeneagers with little experience driving and even less knowledge about other vehicles.

 

I think a 65-125ish roll would yield more than 4-7 cars with a 200+hp difference in cars that weigh close to the same. Think about it, a car moving at around 100mph is travelling approx 150 feet per second. So if you have 2 cars both moving at 100mph that are 2 seconds apart, there's about 300ft between them. Given a vehicle length of about 15ft, that's around 20 "car lengths"(not exactly a standardized unit of measurement here) between them. 2 cars that are several seconds apart in a 1/4mi have a rather considerable distance between them, and the faster they travel the greater the distance that same amount of time becomes.

I was going to buy a Scion, I was about 5 days away from it when this mustang popped up on the market with the same price, less miles, and a hell of alot better looking!
