how the HELL...

have you ever driven a high stall auto car with some power?
two of our faster LS1 owners here both swapped from a manual to an auto, and ran better times, if im not mistaken.

My 86 Monte Carlo had a stalled th350 with a manual valve body and a b&m pro stick. It is a 1000 times easier than the camaro. The only way to mess up driving is to shove it from 1st to 3rd which is hard to do with that shifter. Just roll into the throttle on the street. At the track its boring to drive, after going into 3rd I start looking around it ran 12.20s. Now the camaro is a lot different, bringing the rpms up at the line to 6-6,200 dump the clutch and start banging the gears.Which is harder now than ever because of my stock clutch and hydraulics. It doesn't like shifting in to 3rd and forget about 4th.
Hmmm interesting reponses. Well i was really talking about the street not pro drag racing or race purpose built automatic cars. Alot of people in the first couple of responses were getting a bit too technical.Im talking simple runs on the street.I still think its VERY hard to mess up an auto on a race at the most you just have to know how to play the throttle which shouldnt be hard at all and if someone cant figure it out they shouldnt be racing in the first place.
+1. I used to take out my moms 3.5 altima (auto) and the only skill it required for racing was flooring it, sitting comfortably back in the leather seats, and holding the wheel.
As the owner of an automatic with quite a bit of drag racing experience, I will say that it takes no skill at all to drive. Press the right foot down and hold it there, that is all.

I would level many cars for half the race, that should've absolutely decimated me. The reason is because I had near perfect R/T times, so by the time they started moving, I was already gone!
Master the take off and the only thing that holds you back at that point is the car!
Ok ill give you that. But compare an auto vs a stick from a dig. Your not going to tell me the auto is NOT a **** load easier to launch AND can be consistent almost every single time, unlike a manual were you might 1.rev too low and take off slow 2.might bog the **** out of the launch 3.rev too high and spin or even (i hope not) 4.have uber l337 newb skillz and stall it on take off.

Oh ok man lol, yea true. But man... i still cant see how some people see auto is harder! [:@]heh, well if u can feather the clutch on a manny, you have to control BOTH the gas and clutch to not mess up your launch. On the auto u just let off the brake and IF u have to then just feather the gas pedal only. eh, whatever[8D]

and from I roll I pick the speed so I dont hit that 4l60e dead spot [:'(]
