Help! Mustang swerving
since this is your first car if you have a huge open area to play in you can also practice your winter driving skills... lose control of the car and then correct.. id recommend bringing a parent with you
Let me clarify something. I'm not some 16 year old, actually 19 and I've been driving for 2 years. Its just that before this I was driving my fathers minivan. Need I say more? Ofcourse I need to practice and it was a dumb thing to do.
With or without traction control just flooring it the car will be all over the road, granted it's not an overly powerful V8, but it does still have torque in abundance.
The traction control would have tried to reel you back in from getting all sideways. From any low speed, the only car of mine that I can floor is my '93 Lumina, and if I did that from a stop it'd still be smoking the tires for a little time. The Mustang from a 1st gear roll will do the same, and obviously my goat will do this in the first three gears.
Be safe, slowdown and try to learn about your car and how rear wheel drive is alot different than front.

this thread, funny,.....
honestly, look into taking part into autocross in the spring,
if you wonder why you were swerving under acceleration, hopfully some autocross will help you not kill people

LEAVE TRACTION CONTROL ON!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHY IT'S KICKING OUT TO THE SIDE WHEN YOU FLOOR IT, YOU SHOULDN'T EVER DRIVE WITH TRACTION CONTROL OFF!
It's a Mustang not a Civic. You can't be doing 3k or 4k rpm drops when racing from a stop. That thing is just going to fishtail all over the place. As everyone else said learn how to take off first.

I appreciate everyone's comments. How can i learn to take off without the car's rear end going all over the place. Is there a certain rpm to do this at. And would hold the brake in and revving contribute to the fishtailing? Sorry for the stupid questions, in advance lol.

Hold the brake down and put your foot on the gas.. slowly push the gas down untill you feel likethe tires are about to break loose... when you get to that point just hold it there. When you take off, just release the brake and your car will take off. Slowly apply the throttle from that point up to full throttle. Its really just about that simple. It takes some time to get the technique down, but you dont have that much power in the car. It should hook reasonably well doing it that way.
Go out to an empty country road and practice. Do it over. And over. And over. Just get the hang of launching it down. You have an auto.. pretty much 100% of the race is the launch, after that you just keep your foot down and steer. Mess up the launch and you might as well abandon the run.
You have to get to know your car, it takes time and practice, and eventually you get a feel for it. But definately take it easy, and slowly work your way into driving it hard. It'd suck to go ***** to the wall and wrap it around a telephone pole etc. There's also the "you may kill someone" factor, and you can get ticketed/arrested.
