Meth and intercooling?
Posting this here too, b/c boost/juice I never get any responses at all and I'm pretty sure very few 4.0's if any are running meth and know it.
Here's somequestions I have that I know some of youcan answer:
1. Is meth/water injection just as efficient at cooling as an intercooler? I hear everyone with the gains they've had with it and it seems possible.
2. Will I see as much gains with meth/water injection alone(tuned w/a littlesafeadvanced timing) as I would with an intercooler alone on the same supercharger?
I know meth injection is more dangerous to run without a lot of precautions, I was just wondering this b/c intercooler costs $800-$1k while a goodmeth kit cost $450 (not counting meth fill-ups).

Do both IMO! I'm a big proponent of meth. I would have installed a kit as the next mod on my old STi if I kept it around. If you can't afford it right now, I'd think you'd want to start with an intercooler and add a meth kit later.
If you want the very best gains. Run both. An intercooler & meth/H2o. Meth/H20 isn't dangerous to run. You just need a proper mix of meth to water. a fifty, fifty mix should be good for your set-up. Alot of people make the mistake of thinking that it's the alcohol that provides the cooling but it's actually the water that cools. The Meth acts like high octane fuel to help protectagainst knock.
Don't forget the costs of custom tuning by someone who knows how to tune meth. Most meth systems that I have seen can be turned on at a certain (adjustable) boost level. I have thought about using meth at the track when I build the motor as an *extra* source of power. A friend of mine with TT on his 06 ran meth and he didn't have any problems.
I ran a meth kit on my old s/c Mustang with no problems. I'd guess I saw a 25 hp gain. As stated in the thread, it allows for cooler intake temps and it adds octane - all to prevent detonation. There are risks, but today's kits have more safeguards then mine did. I also run a meth kit on my STI and it added a ton of torque (over 50 ft/lbs iirc).
Just make sure you get a good kit, all of the safeguards, and get it tuned by someone with meth injection experience.
Also, Meth is pretty cheap. I by 5 gallon drums and it will last me a whole year. Can't remember exactly what I paid for the drum, but it was under $70.

Great Great info! So it looks like intercooler is a definite and meth/h2o if/when I get the money for the system. I'm saving up a lot for a big project. Hopefully Mamba can hook me up w/some stuff like I hear! That will help a lot with my plans. Thanks guys again!
