Default 91 formula...trouble?

me and my friend were both challenged to race this real cocky guy who just bought a 91 firebird formula. all i know is it has a 5.7 and an auto. ive got a 95 5.0 auto with a shift kit, full exhaust and intake. and my friends got a 87 5.0 all stock with 4.10 gears and a t5. i know my friend will take him cause of the gears but do i got a chance?

i think they are pretty slow, but 94-98 GT's are pretty slow too so i'm not completely sure.

I wouldn't say all the 94-98's are slow.. driver mod is some of it, but if the 91 formula is in good shape, then you're probably looking at between 285-290 RWHP out of him, with a heavier car vs. and I'm guessing here, but if you're bone stock, about 255-260? RWHP for you in a lighter car. Evens out somewhat, but I think it'll be close.. You might take him though..

No.

The Firebird Formula flexes an amazing 170hp. They are turds.

The Formula's also had a 5.0. The 5.7 motor was in the Trans Am GTA, which is rated at 240hp (unless they underrated those).

To the OP, with your car against that, I think this race favors you.

Ahhh.. I thought the formulas had the same 5.7's that were in the trans am's.. Still, that 170hp figure seems a little low.. I hadn't thought pontiac put out a formula firebird with numbers that low since that absolutely SH**TY 1982 formula firebird that whopped out an amazing 180hp if my addled brain is functioning correctly..

91 Formula Birds also came with the TPI 5.7/automatic variation of the Corvette motor, and when new could pull mid to high 14's. Most 15-20 year old TPI's are in sorry running condition, so should be a driver's race for a stock SN95.

I'd heard that before, but didn't really know for sure.. Though I could've sworn 94-98 gt's had more power than that.. maybe it's the 94-98 cobra i was thinking of.. [&o]Never actually owned a mustang before the mach I have now.. Previous two cars were a Jeep and a 95 lincoln mark VIII.. lol
