raced a pick up
Not an srt10, lightning, or even SS. It was a dakota sport with the 5.9. The kid called me up to show me his new "track car". I pulled up expecting to see a cool car or at least something with some potential. When I get there I see an E46 M3 and the dakota, so I think he got a M3. We talk for about 5 minutes and then he starts showing me the truck. He said it has suspension mods with DRsand heads and a cam. I don't know of how much power they 360 they come with puts down but he said with his mods he should have like 350 whp. He wanted to line up and race. We go from a dig and I absolutely kill him. About 4-5 cars ahead by the time I hit 100 mph. Now I don't know much about how well those things take to mods but I think the guy whole sold him the truck fed him some line of bull**** because if that thing had 350whp it must weigh 10k pounds. After that his friend with the M3 said he was willing to race so we lined up. I stuck with him through first most likely because he was spinning but after his tires got grip he but about a buslength and a half on me by the time I got to 100. He had an intake and full exhaust, but I can't remember the name he told me, some brand that sounded german. All I know is for my next DD I would love to get my hands on one of those E46s, they sound mean as hell and have one of the better exhausts notes I've heard.
Stock 5.9 Dakota's make 250hp. The RT models are capable of 14.80s~ if well driven, but they have a gearing, suspension, and slight power advantage over non RT's. So basically, they're a low 15 sec truck at best. W/ his mods, he isn't making 350whp. I'd put him at 300whp tops, and that's still iffy. The biggest restriction on those engines are their heads and intake. Heads wake them up significantly, espec when coupled w/ a cam, but to be at 350rwhp would require lots of supporting mods as well. Remember, it's a truck. Trucks lose massive power through the drivetrain. I had an RT w/ shaved, ported, polished heads; cam; intake; cai; 1.7 rockers; headers; full exhaust; programmer; electric fan; and bored tb, and that thing wasa beast. Never had it dynoed, but I reckon it'd put down pretty decent numbers. Anyways, yeah, it sounds like the previous owner was BS'ing your buddy.....
BTW- What car were you in???

The fox. Thats why I was a little skeptical about the 350 whp thing. My car gets at best a little over 200 to the wheels and I just pulled on him the whole time. I'm sure if we wnet farther I would have only increased the distance.
He keeps insisting that I already did the top end swap. When I told him it was pretty much the same as when I bought it and I was looking at turbo kits, he called me a liar. I guess he should have had somebody who knew what they were talking about look at it first.[&:]
Some people think their trucks are faster than they really are.
Last night a guy in a Duramax powered truck pulled onto the road in the left lane along side of me as I was going by (I was going 50 in a 45 in the right lane, 4 lane road). He proceeded tofloor it and his truck had very loud exhaust as he passed me. I kept it at asteady speed of 50 and let him go.
Then we hit a red stoplight and when it went green he stepped on it again and I decided I didn't want to hear his loud exhaust right next to me a 2nd time , so I stepped on it too and easily put some lengths between us. After that he had a change of heart and stayed behind me.

A guy in a diesel with a huge exhaust and the sticker "real trucks don't use spark plugs" tried racin my Si on the highway the other day. I'm sure if we were at a light he would have got me, but he must have been on crack tryin to "race" from like 60.
