Default s197 ftw vs 05 STI

today me and a co-worker buddy decided to line up at a stop light at lunch today. his goal was to shut me up by "handing me a beating" in his 05 STI. he would allways alk about racing me but whenever i would see him he would turn me down.

well we finally did it today, i guess he was tired of hearing me taunt him day in and day out. his STI has, cold air intake, pulleys, catless down-pipe,and a vairable center diff (option that year). i have a cold air intake, tune (91 brenspeed), axle-backs, and hurst short throw.

so we went out at lunch and found a decolate area and waited for the red light so we could stage in anticipation for the green. when the light went green we both hammered the throtle. he instantly pulled one car ahead due to his all wheel drive and my lack of traction. i spun the tires all of first gear while staying the same distance behind.
by second gear i was pulling him in and was even with him by the top of second.
then i hit third and it was all over, when we hit 100mph (the agreed stopping speed) i was 1-1 1/2 cars out front. he had nothing to say but "hell of a race".

it really was a great race and the closest one ive had yet. its allways either me killing the other guy or the other guy smashing my hopes of keeping up. like the time i got ballsy with a lambo LP640 lol...

anyway, just thought i would let you all know that the mighty STI's arent all that mighty. my buddy did say he was getting a tune to put him at about 20psi in a couple weeks (stock is 15 he said) so i may have to worry then, but not now.

Very nice race OP. He should be running pretty strong with those mods he has, so that alone says alot about your car. If he ups the boost and retunes it, that should definetly change the outcome next time. You might need to look into some DRs for the next go round.

Mellowdien, stock 06-07 STIs are usually mid 13s, the ones I've seen anyway.

stone is right, drag radials will defenatly compensate for him upping the boost. that is something i wish for every night... first gear traction. lol... even second can be a problem on some roads here in town. but if i had traction off the line at a good rpm, i would have killed him from the git-go.

If the guy with the STI didn't get a tune those mods probably aren't working to their full potential. If he gets it tuned you should get the rest of your exhasut to even it out. OP, nice kill, especially about the part with him "handing you a beating"

When he gets it tuned w/ 20psi, you're done for. Even w/ DR's. Sorry...

What's up with the "tuned to 20 psi"? It's not going to hold 20 psi up in the RPM range - no way. I think the guy is just spouting off. He might spike 20 psi, but that's it.

Here's a chart from my datalogging software. This was done in 4th gear:

It spiked 20 psi, so I guess I should tell people I have the boost upped to 20 psi
