ls1 hp vs -05 hp?
This thread is redundant. I can't believe no one has said this yet............but all the info you require is in the LS1 sticky at the top of this forum section.
But the shorthand, is yes.......the LS1 F-bods were underrated. They made from 335-350 at the crank depending on the year (98 and 99s made less IIRC). And yes, it is cheaper and easier to make them faster than a 4.6 Mustang..........a full liter more displacement in a highly efficient pushrod configuration will do that.

Even in this thread there is a variance, 310 - 340 at the flywheel... Sounds they can even take an 05 3v GT....dammm...
I've been lurking in one of the LS1 forums and there are alot of GT kills.... "bolt on only Z28" vs "s/c GT"..... Z takes the win, etc...

I am aware "there's a sticky" but most of us don't look at that each and every day, and I wan't some fresh info / opinions...
I guess I am just looking ahead
... Now I only have n20... but next? s/c $2K+ used.... at that point I have options on what to do with that $2K+, ie trade in for a z28 or an 05 GT. An 02-04 Cobra is not an option, nor is a mach 1, overpriced for just a mustang...
So my decision is going to guide my path in 4Q08. The last muscle car I had was 7-8 years ago !!!!!!!! I jumped on this GT without thinking, then in the last 90 days started thinking....even though I don't race every day / week, etc... on the street, I want to make sure my ROI is positve

termi overpriced for just a mustang? The 03-04 cobras are probably one of the best cars to buy, if you plan on modding, out there if not THE best. you can get one with low mileage for low 20's...put a grand in it and make 450rwhp in a car that has a pretty smooth ride and looks like sex...not a bad deal!

^^^^With some weight reduction, suspension, and an aggressive enough H/C/I setup, I could see an N/A LS1 pulling a 10.4.

I honestly think the 03-04 termi is the best bang for the buck in that price range.. but he didn't list it as an option.. I saw a lot of them on autotrader with less than 75,000 miles for under 25,000. you can do some pretty hardcore stuff to them since their engine is already forged.. and cheap mods for good boost in performance.. pecking order for V8 performance for 25k or less would probably be termi then LS1 then 05GT..
If you want a warranty you can get an 08 GT for only a little more than you'd pay for an LS1 or termi though (maybe even the same price as a termi)
as far as the GTO goes I wonder bother with one unless it had the LS2 in it.. but that's my opinion.. (I also think an LS1 Transam looks a lot better than a GTO)
I'm pretty sure whichever you choose you'll like it.. unless you get a higher mileage/abused car that blows up on you soon after you buy it.. if you can do some good haggling a new GT isn't too much of a stretch. (and you can usually get better financing on a new car which will make your payments lower even though its more expensive, especially if they are running 0% APR right now

you can get an ls2 goat for under 25k almost brand new. an ls1 goat will go for 14-15.
