I was leaving work and came up behind a (99/01? looked like IRS under it when he hit the corner) black SVT Vert with Scott plates. I got up next to the guy and tried to give a thumbs up but the dude pretended I didn't exist,I figure maybe hethinks I'm a V6 so I shoot past a bit then slow up and toss another thumbs up..nothing. Followed him on the ave through a nice hard 90 degree bending curve and he goes WOT, so I follow suit... he stays ahead but I think I started to creep just before he lets off... once again I roll up even and try to acknowledge him..nothing. At the next light he shoots over at the last minute andducked down a side street despite the clear empty red light before us... wtf??

 

sounds like he was scared.

That could have been it..of course judging but how I didn't just real him in on the curve/straight we were on I would say he wasn't stock... shouldn't have a reason to sweat it. Hell honestly I was just hoping to give the guy a thumbs up and move on but it ticked me off to get snobbed like that.

 

You never know whats up with random people on the street. Maybe he's banging someones wife and was afraid you were the angry husband trying to get his attention or something.[:@]

 

that would have beena hell of a match for your stock catfish, you should have honk the horn at him to get his attention [8D]

 

maybe he was stock and figured that most camaros are beefed up and didnt feel like losing

 

I thought he was stock at first but his exhaust was MUCH louder than any stock Cobra I've heard and the tires out back were pretty wide. I posted on our local board..someone from the quads has to know him.

Edit: Come to think of it... it had to have been pre 2001, the rear bumper didn't have 'COBRA' on it... (if I remember correctly that started on the 01 cars right?)

That is correct. 99 Cobra's had the MUSTANG bumper, the 01's had COBRA.

 

As I said...my initial intention was to give the guy props and turn off to get some food... for whatever reason he was playing capt hardass and ignored me... I didn't even plan on a race until he went WOT through the curve (caught me completely off guard), he played once so I figured he was game.

He definately didn't have cobra,andI rememberwondering if it was fake until I noticed it just said 'Mustang' and not 'Mustang GT' like the othercars do...

do the 1998 cars look similar to the 1999 models? Any one know key points to disguish? I will do some digging and see if I notice from pictures online but if someone had a breakdown of differences that would help.

 

Sounds like he didn't wanna race and was trying to get you to leave him alone. Although shooting off really fast isn't the best way to get people to give up. So yeah, I guess you could say he ran away.[&:]
