My friend just bough a 2006 mustang GT 5 speed and he brought it over to my neighbors and my neighbor hates it when people have better stuff then him and told him that he wasted his money and he would still beat him top end. My neighbor has a 2001 Lexus IS300 with 110K miles on it and the speed go to 160 so he THINKs the car will go that fast but I explained to him it will not.

But what are the top speeds of these two cars and also MY CAR. I ran 131mph and was at 4K rpms IDK how much more it would have gone as I have an Auto tranny.

 

update. the Lexus goes 144mph and that friends GT has exhaust , pullies , and MAC CIA.

They have a cut off at 149 (I think it may have varied slightly from year to year) from the factory, but with a tune...

 

A stock S197 will struggle to hit 150mph. If he got 4.10 gears, it would actually improve his top speed slightly.

 

It's going to be won well before anyone gets near 140mph (unless you start reallly really close to 140...haha)

 

the IS struggles to get that high in speed, tell him to slap a turbo on the 2jz, and then he can compete

 

The IS won't even come close to a GT in the top end. I used to own one, I should know haha. Yeah the speedo goes to 160 but it's not going to top out at that. The GT will pull harder all the way through the powerband than the IS, unless the IS is turbocharged.

 

the IS has the same motor as the supra (2jz) so the ONLY way it's going to make power is turbo

 

Yep, or typical NA mods and some juice. Not many IS guys run nitrous but there are a few that have used it successfully. Surprisingly the 2JZ-GE can only reliably hold about 300whp before it needs to have some components swapped out. It's not nearly as stout as the GTE.
