Unhappy got my a$$ kicked today...

... and won a good race.

1st up was a s197 Supercharged Saleen. We ran 4 times I destroyed him twice on a 100 shot and the other 2 runs I was on the motor... I beat him by 3 or 4 cars then. We both spun a little but I was making forward progress while spinning. He had 465hp

then I got my a$$ kicked. I ran a Kenne Bell'd 04 Cobra. They said it had ~640 rwhp. It was on Hoosier Drag radials (which are like slicks). I wasn't afraid because from what I heard it only ran a 12.2 @ 117, which doesn't add up for that power level, but I figured oh well, lets do it.
We ran twice the 1st time I know he left way early (I chased him) and left too hard and totally blew the tires off. I have never lost traction like this! He probably got me by about 5+ cars before i could hook up, I started gaining but we had to about and I was about 3 1/2 behind. We went again. He jumped a little early, I launched NA and blew the tires off (barely moving forward), shifted to 2nd and sprayed it, fishtailed and was trying to pedal the car but it was useless, went to 3rd and it still spun but was trying to grab. I started to reel him in and he ended up with 1 car on my (about a 1/8 mile run).
Later someone that was behind me and said the 'track' was dusty because when I took off I was kicking up dust/sand.
I'm not used to getting beaten out the hole but I guess sooner or later it's going to happen

We will both be going to the track in the next 2 weeks. I will be sure to be on slicks. And I will get video of me beating the supposed 600+rwhp 12 second Cobra. There will be no jumping the gun off of this tree.

ON EDIT:I realized I posted in the wrong section so I moved it.

I dunno, if he still had the IRS in there, I'd buy the 12.2 part, but 640rwhp+ he should be trapping somewhere around 126-128, unless he is babying the car.

After swapping in an IRS, even with upgraded halfshafts and everything, wheelhop makes you very, very cautious (if your worried about breaking like I am) and paranoid.

From what I've seen and experienced, it's VERY hard to get a beefed up IRS to hop on slicks(or bias ply "radials"). My IRS a pos 99 with 28 spline stuff and it handled 500+ft/lbs for a long time. I cut some low 1.6's IIRC. It never ever once hopped with anything better than a Nitto. I've got a pic of a 99 Cobra pulling the wheels up about 3-4ft, let me see if I can find it. I think he was cutting 1.3 60fts.

Sounds like some sweet runs.

In my experience with the S197 GT's being S/C'ed, it is easily a drivers race.

With the cobra, I am pretty interested in this, so I will put in my .02. I have seen some local guys with the stock IRS with a KB, making abour 650 RWHP, run 10.7's more than once on DR"s. Pullied only Cobra's have run mid 11's with a great driver, on the stock IRS. I personally don't see your car hanging with a KB Cobra unless the driver was messing around.

Before you get upset, I'm not attacking you, or calling you a liar. It sounds like you have a very strong running car. But a KB Cobra is a monster.

A friend of mine at the track has a whipple'd termy putting down around 620 rwhp. He's running 12.2s @ 125-126 in crappy weather on nitto dr's. He is a terrible driver, but to his defense, he rarely ever goes to the track. That 117 trap seems very low.
