Default Bone stock new edge.......

A couple weeks ago I had a thread about my brother's new car, 5spd new edge. I talked about his couple runs, and how he did very surprisingly well against the cars he ran against.

Well, the cars definately a runner. He took it to the local 1/8 last night. Ran some pretty decent times. He went in it expecting low low 9's, hoping for a 8 somewhere in there. First run ever he popped off a 8.85. His best of the night was an 8.83 @ 79, with a best trap overall of 81mph. I know thats not record material or anything, but for a bone stock (air silencer, paper filter, BONE), full weight (he's over 300lbs, jack, spare still in there), and street tires (decent tread, but some offbrand name, look like snow tires), These seem to be pretty decent numbers. The best et came off a 2.062 60', so he's got a little bit of the driver mod there. That et works out to a 13.86 1/4, so, all variables equated in, im pretty happy for him, especially his first time with the car on the track......

Wait, so a stock GT with a max of 240whp runs 13.8's? That thing weighs 3600lbs with your bro in it.

Don't mean to start anything, I'm just wondering how?

I always thought GTs were Midrange cars, falling off on the big end. Meaning, they'll pick up around or before the 1/8th mile (reflecting a good 1/8th ET), but then fall back after the 1/8th resulting in a lower 1/4 ET. OP, you're bro has a strong car and sounds like a hell of a driver pulling off those 2.0 60's!

You know, you're right. My '03 GT did that. About 80mph it started to fall off. I would figure it good for 14.3's

I've always said the New edge was a high 13 second car with a very good driver. Maybe your brother has some skills behind the wheel. The New edge is a good car from 0 to 80.

Almost on the nose tony, race weight was 3620lbs.

BB, I hate/have to admit, the boy can drive his *** off. He had an 87 ttop with just full exhaust, cai, timing, small serpintine belt pulling stupid numbers (he got the bs flag pulled by you on his 8.87 @ 81 run, but I have to believe it, I saw the run!!)

Good run...
My personal 1/8th mile best is a 9.77 @ 72.74 with a 2.28 60'...
Course I'm also missin two cylinders...
;-)
lol
I haven't run since I gutted everything behind my front seat,
and I can't wait to get this new clutch and flywheel broken in...
I'm hopin for AT LEAST a .2 drop cause even with the 9.7 my car still had a little left in it...
And with a good launch I'm pretty sure I could manage...
Driver mod FTW!
:-D

those are great 1/8th mile times............but i dunno about a 13.8. probably a 14.0, considering the way those cars lose a little bit of steam past 80 mph.

still.........crazy good times. put some decent tires on it and take it to a 1/4 mile track haha.

I agree with Blue. A well driven New Edge should be a High 13 sec car.

I see most New Edge GTs running mid 14s stock. This is near the coast in NC, about 300 ft ASL, but with a good amount of humidity during the warmer season. Not saying they can't or don't run high 13s, I've just never witnessed it with a stock New Edge GT.
