Saturday night fun
I dont get the chance to get out very often due to kids. Made it out Sat night for, what will probably be the last nice night of the year, temp wise. Met another forum member, 35thanniversaryGT. He now has a Lightning. I would have run him, but oldest daughter was done with her school dance around 11, so I had to go. On the way home, with another buddy in a 99 Cobra vert, a C5 seemed to be making it a point to get next to us as we were getting to the highway overpass and on ramp. With two left turn lanes, he was behind me, Cobra to my left. Light changes and off we go. Once heading straight down the ramp, I stomped on it. The Corvette lost ground all the way down. About 1/2mile further is a exit only lane, which the Corvette stayed in. He came up to my right side, slowed, then stomped it to get onto a highway lane. Sounds nice, but he still lost, he he.
Earlier, I finally came across a V8 Grand Prix. This stretch of road is 6 lanes across. He was kinda eggin me for a couple stoplights, and goosing it between lights while in traffic. No mistaking his intentions. Didnt get the chance to run from a dig, but once we had a clear shot, we got two rolls in. We all know a dig would not be in his favor at all. From about 30 each time, he got a jump on me. I dont trust myself to manually shift better than it already does, so I figured I would suffer through the delayed downshift. Each time, I slingshot by him pretty good. At the last light together he asked if I was S/C, surely he heard the ProCharger despite my efforts to make it quiet. I said yes with a smile. He said he was still stock. Wife and I have to wonder about that, because the entire time while egging us on, he manually had it in a lower gear, and we both heard what would normally be an unmistakable whine of a S/C, although faint. I didnt see the V8 emblem until I was passing him the second time. I guess there is something about those cars that normally makes that sound. Any confirmations about that?
Fun night all in all, even if cut short.

Could have been whining from the accessories and belt set up. Then again I'm not too sure about the V8's they stuffed under the hood of the grand prix's. On the 3.8 motors, they tend to make a whining sound that sounds like a supercharger haha.. my oldsmobile does it all the time. People ask if it's blown and I have to explain that it's just a piece of crap.
