So get an LT1 equipped car, drop in an 02 SS LS1, or better yet, an LS6 Z06 V8 and have fun with it. the Ins company would never know.

Jugador, from all the research I've done with 3rd gens, 80k miles was when sensors, relays, ECM's all started to fail. Around 80k also, water pumps, alternators, heater core...etc are all known problems with F-bodies.

With 4th gens, opti-spark are a major problem, a MAJOR PITA, and expensive as hell to fix.

Base LS-1 w/o WS6 package = 310bhp in 2002
Base Lt-1 w/o WS6 package = 275bhp in 93-97
Only difference in most of these is the Ram Air option and a different suspension I believe. CAI is $200 for a TA.

I've heard a lot of talk about the opti-spark on WS6 forum. I have heard they go out around 100k-140k but as long as you keep most any fluids and such from getting on them they'll last a while. I don't know the price of a repair but I'm sure its pretty expensive from what I've heard. As far as sensors and such failing at 80k, this is the first I've heard of it.
