Default Tires holding me back

I fixed my differential, so now i do 2 wheel burnouts instead of the old 1 wheel peels... i thought this would improve my 60 foots significantly.. but no.

I ran a new best yesterday but my 60 foot was slightly worse than previous runs

My car is STOCK 2003 gt 5 speed for both these

PREVIOUS best -- i left it in 3rd through the trap on this one
60 foot : 2.68
330' : 6.54
1/8 : 9.73 @ 78.5
1000 : 12.4 @ 93.8
1/4 : 14.62@ 101.6

NEW best ---- shifted to 4th at 90 mph for this run
60 foot : 2.72
330' : 6.52
1/8 : 9.69@80.1 mph
1000 : 12.35@91.7
1/4 : 14.61@101.4

.01 second better lol... might have been more of an improvement if i left it in 3rd through the traps on the new run.. im not sure.

anyways i think my tires are holding me back- they are treadware 420

what kind of 60 foots and 1/4 mile times do you think i could pull with these tires?

Unfortunately I think your driving is holding you back atleast as much as the tires. 2.6x '60's are bad on any tire.

not sure what im doing wrong.. cant launch at any higher rpm than like 2000 or i spin

i think my 60 foots would improve significantly if i had some slicks or stickier tires lol... dont you?

Im letting the clutch out and trying to hold the car at the edge of traction on my launches... if my edge of traction was higher i think i could improve. What else do you suggest?

Yes I do...... just not sure how much considering your current '60 time is so high. Are your current tires bald?

D/R's

The tires you linked are for street driving and are not going to help that much at the strip because of a stiff sidewall. Remember though, if you get a set of D/R's your performance on the street will be hindered.

not completely bald, they are fulda quantum elites, treadware 420 and they came with my car when i bought it about 9 months ago.. not sure how old they are.

they dont even leave marks when i do burnouts though- thats how hard they are.

You are wasting your time and money if you're trying to improve your 60 ft by getting a tire that is not specifically designed for drag racing. Most tires have compounds designed to dissipate heat, which makes them less sticky and longer-lasting. Drag tires are designed to retain heat, which is want you want for launching. You need the Nitto 555R, BF Goodrich DR, Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial, M&H DR, Goodyear DR, or some other radial or bias ply drag tire. Probably not a full slick though.

Hey man if you really like racing why haven't you modded your car yet? Before I think about buying tires I would get some gears. Can't remember if you were stick or manual. Anyways it dosen't matter if you do go with a gear go with 410's.

its my DD and i dont have that much $$. ive been thinking and saving up $$ for a nitrous kit and doing a 100 shot while running 93 octane and mabe some cooler sparkplugs

i didnt get gears yet because my tires are so bad and i think the gears would worsen my traction issues

those 60s are horrendous, even on a street tire you should be able to get 2.0-2.1, how are you launching? slipping the clutch or just dumping it?
