Thumbs up 96 formula Firebird vs 92 Civic Hatch

Last night 2 of my friends raced
In the 96 formula Mods are: bored .030 over (355ci), LT's, electric water pump, ud pulley, 1.5 rr, PnP tb and maf, 3in Y pipe, Borla catback, 30# ford injectors, T56 swap, 3.42 gears, tuned by RPM=330whp@6400 327wtq. I don't have the specs on the cam yet.

92 Civic CX hatchback weight w/ driver 2300lbs. Mods: stock LS B18 B1 stock LS tranny open diff, ebay stage 2 clutch, ebay ic piping and ic, ebay cast exhaust mani w/ 38mm wastgate, small T3 turbo from a 300ZX (I think), 370cc injectors, chipped ecu w/ a very safe tune.

Side notes: civic had a 235 pound rider, only running on waste gate 7psi and the Formula was by himself

My buddy in the Civic was on the way home and got on the highway and the Formula followed and pulled up beside the Civic at 60mph and they pull it back into 3rd. 3 honks they were off the Formula jumped out 3/4 of a car off the get go, then the civic started pulling back and got out in front by 90 and inched his way out to a 1/2 car by 110 and stopped.

The guy in the Formula tried saying it was too high of a roll and was calling bs that it was only on 7psi, but the guy in the civic only has a 7psi spring in the wg and doesn't have a boost controller.

Needless to say I think it was a good damn run myself.

The Formula just couldn't accept it, eh?

Not sure how much yesterday was the first day he was able to drive the car. He just did the motor swap to this past week. So he was happy.

Just as a reference I guess... He just pulled out a JDM D15B (SOHC vetc 1.5L) with the same turbo and all on 11psi in the 1/8 it ran 8.61@89.7 w/ 2.20 60' and all the hp calculators we use said it was about 200whp so ... He said this set up with the less boost is far more superior to the old set up.

Something's wrong with that Formula, if he's only making 330rwhp with a cammed 355. Baby cams on stock cubes make that easily. There's been bolt-on LT1's that make mid-upper 320's. Also, what's with running a 355 on stock unported heads? Why would he put that much into the machine work on the motor, and leave the heads alone?

Either way, for the power he's making, it sounds like a good run. A turbo Civic hatch is nothing to be taken lightly. They can be deadly little cars. I don't see why some people just can't take a loss, because it's to a car like a Honda.

The cam 234 intake 239 exhaust duration and .575 intake .595 exhaust lift on a 112 lobe separation angle and 4 degrees of advance ground in. That lift is with 1.6 rr's. He had bought the bottom end for $350 and didn't have the money to work the heads. They had to run 1.5rr's bc it was too much lift for the valve spring that he has. The guy at RMP said if he had 1.6rr's he could of made 345-350whp easily and they didn't want to go too crazy with the tune.

None the less it was a hell of a run and the honda does run it's a$$ off for sure. It's fully spooled and spinning at 3000rpm in first, and if your running 10mph in 2nd and mat it when it hits 3000rpm it starts blowing the tires off in 2nd as well. I can't wait to ride in it or maybe even drive it
