Default why do this... irritating

Ok, I know the 98 gt is considered one of the slowest stangs around (gt's of course), but why do people act like their racing, rather than just try and beat me?
Today, me and the wife dropped off our son to a friends house so we can cruise for a half hour. it was the second day having the stang out this year, I figured lets go cruise. We see a yellow 96/98 cobra. looks sweet, nice and loud (dumped exhaust), nice paint. At this point I was cruising with o/d off, so my car was at a decent rpm, he knew I wasn't exactly stock.

1st "race" or whatever you call it.... He revs, I do a quick 'roar' then punch it, he punches it for a second, not even, then lets off... I think to myself, ok, I had a camero do this to me before, he just wanted to see how slow I am, that's fine. Here's my problem....

3 minutes later, we both hit it, but he's in 3rd gear at 45... How can I tell he's in 3rd? There's no way I was pulling on him the way I did without a tune on my car. Plus, his car didn't 'snap' when he hit it.

Anyway, It's irritating, if ur gonna do that, why not actually race. I hope I catch that dude at a light when I get my tune and my uca/lca's installed. I should have him at that point.

For those who want to know my mods:
cai, 70mm tb, trickflow plenum, pi intake, comp 268 cams, stage 2 ported pi heads, steeda pulleys, tuner (tune is wiped atm), 3:73 gear, auburn posi unit, o/r h pipe, 40 flows...I think thats it. Still have to install the uca/lca's. I am also an auto vert.

I used to do that to cars all the time screwing with them...mainly because I was evil (all leftys are ) and was trying to get this exact reaction from them.

Of course then one day I am screwing with a boneville.. and he almost beat me.. started pulling more than I was expecting and by the time I went to save the race my car didn't downshift.. ended up pulling out a close win instead of what it should have been. I missed the SSEi badge and made a fool of myself.. haha

Since then I just give people everything I have and hope it's good enough.
