S197 Vs Camaro SS
Not a very exciting race... But I expected the outcome to be quite different...
I was driving to work this morning, and I hear a pretty nice sounding V8, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from at first, then I see a Camaro up ahead going through the traffic. He's already driving pretty fast, so I floor it to catch up with him... He was stuck behind a truck so I had the oppurtunity to catch up. I got in right behind him, we were both in the far left lane. The truck in front of him moved over and his gunned it. I was already in 3rd as I expected this to happen lol... I started with about 1 length between us and he gunned it slightly before I did so he got a little more room. But with my foot firmly planted to the floor I was not closing the gap, but he also wasn't widening it. I had to shift to 4th before he made his next shift so i'm assuming he was automatic. Once I was in 4th he SLOWLY started inching away ever so slightly. We hit about 120 and shut it down. I have no idea what he had in his car but it sounded really nice. I know I got his draft so that helped me out a little bit... but I also had my windows down and he had his up. And when my windows are down it noticably affects my ability to accelerate once in the 100s.
Makes me wonder what would have happened if we started side by side and I had my windows up :-P The camaro was an SS and it was the last Body style before they stopped making them. I clearly do not know much about Camaros lol But I was actually expecting to lose this race pretty bad since every Camaro i've ever ran(V8s at least) at the track beat me. They were all low 13 or mid-high 12 cars. Of course I don't know what any of those had either since people don't always like to tell what they have lol "What do you have?" "Not much" lol

Sounds like a good time. But yea, what he said up thur, he should pull on you throughout and just add on up top.
Since you're not familiar with LS1's, my old car made 325rwhp with just a lid/cutout and it was an auto. Do full bolton S197's even make that much power?
Oh yea, there's a sticky on top of the page as well that'll tell you all you want to know about LS1's.

Ok, well I don't know what gears he has... the gear he was in was pretty long, because he was in it from about 70-115 and when it shifted up it sounded like an automatic. For all I know he could of had ONLY exhaust. I have intake/tune and exhaust and I stayed right with him until we hit higher speeds. He did technically beat me... sort of... But I expected it to be a lot worse. My 1/4 times are .6 seconds faster than my stock runs of 14.3@98 w/2.1 60'(which is pretty average around here) If an auto SS would beat a '09 GT by 1 car length to 100... I would think the change made by my mods would allow me to beat or compete with an SS. So if this guy only has exhaust, this outcome seems reasonable to me... I really wish I could have talked to the guy tho... but he exited right after the run.
full bolt on GTs are making 350rwhp(properly tuned, including cams).. with the proper combo of heads & cams people are making just under 400rwhp. I think the only reason it was close was because the LS1 was probably stock. if LS1s dyno 300rwhp stock quite a few people have gotten 300rwhp out of just an intake/tune which the OP has.
I fvcking hate automatics but having said that, I would bet the ranch that a stock '02 SS Camaro/WS6 would beat a stock '09 GT in stock trim whether it was auto or 5spd. Ford needs to unleash something off the showroom floor that isn't an SVT application that will compete with the 7 year old bowtie...

With intake and fulls exhaust and tune... I believe that puts us around 300rwhp. Most of the guys around 325 also have cams. The New CNL intake looks like it will make it possible to hit 320-ish without cams. Heads, Cams, Intake Manifold, Intake, Full exhaust and a dyno tune would probably get us into the 380-400 rwhp range. But aren't the Camaros heavier?

Dates and Times of when you ran as well as where would be usefull right now. Your times are bad for an S197 and I suspect it's because you are fightning really bad DA down there. The only reason it really matters is because if you are running in 3000+ DA then the Camaro is running mid 13s and mph is near 105 (from experience)... you should be running low 13s with your mods with 106ish traps so I am guessing that's what is going on here.
