Default Bolt-on 5.0 vs "built" engine turbo'ed Civic

I dont get many races on the street, so there always a treat for me. Ive also never raced a honda that was worth a damn, so it was pretty cool. No i dident use the bottle, this is all motor.

On the way home from work (20min ago) I was getting on the off ramp for the main road back to my house when i see a older Honda Civic. The trunk lid has been shaved to get rid of the taillight's, license plate area, and key hole. Also looks like the taillight's on the fender's are from a BMW or something, they don't look like there from a civic.

Car has a pretty large fart can and the tag is now hanging on the bumper instead of where they shaved the place for it on the trunk lid.

I didn't think much of it at first, and he took off like hell from the light. I was in the middle lane behind 3-4 cars, he was in the far right that merges just after getting onto the road.

I saw him zip up another 4-5 cars in front of the ones I was behind and cut them off. Didn't think much of it. I got in the left lane as it was mostly clear.

As im rolling past these car's, I see him with his windows down about half way, so I left the car in 3rd, around 2k rpm, and gave it just a tiny tiny bit of throttle as I passed so my exhaust would get a bit louder.

Bit the bait like a fish.

He whip's over behind me, and start's following. I move over to the right lane to avoid traffic, and he come's behind me.

I'm now in the far right lane behind one car at the light, he's behind me.

Traffic move's slow, but a opening open's beside me in the left lane, so he take's it.

I didn't think it was anything more then a civic with some body work...... until i heard it spooling, and a blow off valve.

I was a little surprised, because like I said, I never get anything out here to play with, let alone a decently done up civic.

He stay's a bit behind me in the lane to my left, as there's a truck in front of him. I goosed the throttle a little to say "wanna play?" and he get's in it, LOUD turbo, and LOUD blow off valve sounds.

traffic is clear the lane to his left, so he take's off. I follow.

He catch's the light. He's the first in line. I'm behind him. Nice little straight away in front of us. Light goes green, and I'm ready to go. He take's off like a lil' grandma. I'm anticipating him taking off, so I'm right on his bumper. Right when i get out of the throttle to back off, he punch's it. He get's the jump.

I'm in first, I wrap it and second out, and we are pretty dead even, me about a half car back (from already being behind him and him getting the jump). I reel him in slamming it into third, and at the top of third we are double the speed limit, and im about to run him over. I back the throttle to half, and can hear him still in it W.O.T. at this point.

we are football fields in front of all the traffic behind us, and hit the next light. I pull next to him and he doesn't even look over at me (lol).

I yelled over "Pushing a lot of boost?" He says "No, *looks at gauges* About 9PSI, breaking in this motor" the light has turned green by now, and i decide to punch it. Lit up all of first, and threw the rear end out slamming into second. ease it into third because i notice he is back at least 3-4 car's. So im guessing he didn't get in it.

My street is at the next light, and traffic is heavy up ahead past my street so i decide to go home.

not that good of a race at all, but I had a lot of fun, and have never seen a decent honda around here. I literally might get to run a car once every 2-3months around here.

For the ppl that don't know my car the big mod's are in the signature, and to add to that i have a very aggressive geared trans (3.55 first gear) and 9.5" mickey Thompson ET streets in the rear. My car is 3500lb's with me in it on the dot.

thank's for reading

I've seen some mild turbo civics that throw down 275-300 whp so it sounds like this guy was running low boost, or doesn't know how to build a proper turbo kit. Good run.

+1. With my stock head's, ported or not. I would be lucky to be making 265hp at the wheel right now i think....

Well people around here tell me my car is making about 235-240 whp and I have the e303 cam and stock heads and pretty much evey bolt on you could get, so you'd probably be throwing down 250-260 whp I'd imagine.

im planing on a dyno soon, but i gotta wait to get my Daily driver fixed because im going to spray the hell out of the car on the dyno, and just incase something pop's i wanna be sure i have a ride to work

should be a month or so max and ill know. It pull's like a raped ape. Pulls harder then my friend with a jacked up H/C/I set up. Has edelbrock heads, a intake ment for a big block, and some gnarly cam that he has no clue what it is. my car pull's MUCH harder then his, so IDK

Well I'm sure you know a mis-matched H/C/I setup won't make too much power, and from the sound of it your buddies isn't matched right. What size shot do you run? There's a couple options between 100 and 150.

Guy I know took a Fox, that he already had in the mid 6's on a bunch of nitrous and a stroker motor, somehow managed to put some BBF heads/intake on either that motor, or another one, and now proceeds to run in the 8's....

And yes, I'm still talking 1/8th mile.

Oh yea, and from experience, don't get your hopes up when using the *** dyno, it seems to always let you down.

Nice run!~

8-9 psi is what pretty much what stock motors like to run in those civics. I ran a few 8-9 psi SI motor swapped civics a few years back and they were pretty quick.. ran a whole friggin' gang of them actually! Lost only twice to technicalities, other then that I won nearly all of them. Just watch out when they are pushing 24-25 psi/built motor lol.. damn!
