Default New M6, 09 S197

I just got down here to Myrtle Beach for the week, down here from Raleigh with the wife. Anyway, an unknown BMW with a pretty loud exhaust flies up next to me, reving and lurching. I started to downshift and hit it, but I noticed the red light ahead, so I knew it was about to get even better. As we approach the light, my wife looks over at the BMW's badging and informs me that its an M6. Not knowing a damn thing about an M6, I proceed to launch my S197 on the green. Traction was good due to a full trunk. My reaction was way faster than our opponent, so by the time he got going, I was ahead by 4 cars. Just as I was about to really start gloating, this thing flat pours it on me. He passed me just as hard as I originally left him. He put 4 cars right back on me and hit the brakes, as did I. I had to turn off, so I blinked my lights, he returned a brake flash and kept going. So, basically I got obliterated by this $100,000+ car (I looked a couple up on Autotrader), but I haven't got a clue what they are packing under the hood. Anyone know much about them? Did he pull on me like that in stock form, or would it take a few mods? He was pretty loud, loud enough to be heard over my MAC exhaust. It sounded a lot like a Viper does, imo.

That torque looks low for a 500 horse V10, but it is a high reving V10, so I guess that and the gearing make up for the low torque and heavy weight.?

That's why it sounded like a Viper, it's a V10.

And yeah, gearing multiplies torque to the wheels. Engine torque x gearbox ratio x diff ratio, then factor in tire diameter and efficiency loss.

Yep, it's a small displacement high compression V10, hence it's low on torque.

Stone I can't believe you haven't heard of a M6.

It has the same motor as the E60 M5. He doesn't need any mods to walk you like he did. They run low 12's and trap in the high teens right out of the box.

Those 5.0L V10's do sound great with an aftermarket exhaust.

The M6 basically looks like a overpriced M5, performance wise anyway.

Same goes for the 650i compared to the 550i. You are definitely paying for the M6's image. It's all about keeping up with the Joneses.

the s197 is about 500lbs less. A HO Blown s197 would make a great run at this car.

HO? High output?

Yes a blown 3v could run with one.
