Default My Mach vs older camaro

So I was at a car meet lastnite and this kid in an older camaro flaged me over and wanted to race. He said it was a 5.0 & ran mid 13's, im not sure what version it was but it had dual circular exhaust tips on each side. So we get on the highway and line up. Were going about 40mph so I shiftd to second gave the three honks and we both took off. By the end of third I was about 2 cars infront of him pulling away, reached about 110 then let off and waitd for him. He pulled up next to me and said he was spinning which neither me or my passenger heard. So we then got off to meet at another spot but as we pulled up so did the cops so we got back on the highway and I pull up next to him and give him a little rev to let him know I was ready again. He doesnt even look my way and just keeps crusing at about 50. wtff if I asked someone to race then spun id want to go againn... sore loserr

An old 5 liter Camaro isn't going to run mid 13s without a TON of work, or either some FI or spray. I doubt he was spinning, not unless he really does have a mid 13 second car and he doesn't have positive traction. Regardless, he must of had something done to it to be able to stay within 2 cars of your Mach. From 40-110 you should put about +2 bus lengths on a stock/bolt on 5.0 Camaro. Do you remember what gear you started in?

Yeah he definitely was not stock. I pull about 2 cars on a stock 5.0 Camaros from 0-100, while the newer gt/machs will completely rape me. Good race, you should should find out his mods.

I think he said 2nd gear at 40mph.

Yeah, it should take a fair amount of mods to get one those in the mid 13's.

Op was right where he should've been (in 2nd gear at 40 mph), so that 302 must of been a mid 13 second car, or close to it. I'd love to know what all he did to get it to run like that. Maybe he was spraying?

Camaro's ran the 305, not the 302 (unless we're talking old school DZ302 1st gen). it's really hard to get a 305 to make any kind of power. even stroked out, they don't really scoot too well. they love spray like a fat kid loves cake though. my buddy had a 305 powered Caprice that he ran a nitrous line straight into the intake from the bottle. we drained the bottle, that old Caprice still runs and drives lol.

heck, for all we know, the kid could have been lying about it being a 5.0 and really had a 327/350 in the car.

Whoops, thanks for the clarification. The kid may have bought it with whatever is done to it, and doesn't even know what's under the hood.
