First Victory
So, my first post here is actually my first "victory" if you want to call it that. It was only one run, but it felt awesome. I apologize for the length, too lol:
I was on my way to work yesterday afternoon. I'm on a one-way two-laner heading north out of MD stuck behind a sedan in the left moving at the same speed as one of those huge moving vans soaking up the right. Cars cars cars behind in my lane with no one in the right...however, what appears to be a late 80's-to-early-90's S-10 is bolting in and out of traffic. Looks lowered in the front. He sees me because all the sudden he comes flying up next to me fast as hell, slows down to a car and a half behind me then jams on the gas to get in front of me a little. He does that a few times, coming real close to that big van soaking up the right lane. The sticker he had in his rear window read "xxxxx Edge Line Racing" as far as I could tell.
Man, I have to say that what I thought was an S-10 was actually the GMC variant (S-15, I think?)...but that thing ROARED every time he got on it. It had some kind of bigger V8...all motor...it DEFINTELY wasn't the 4.whatever V6 they come with.
When he passed me just slightly I could see it actually was lowered in the front, with some other kind of suspension in the rear. I say "other" because I didn't see any leaf springs, but it was definitely jacked up in the back. The way it was layed out was like a serious drag suspension or something.
With absolutely NO cars in front of the two in front of us, and a LOT of road in sight, I just knew what was gonna happen: FUN. I started cheeze-ball smiling and shaking my head.
I don't know if the sedan in front of me got the hint, but it sped up and got in front of the big van. The dude in the GMC backed off and found a spot to slide over in the left lane.
I selected the ground and terms to do battle: I gave it some gas, moved into the right lane, and moved way ahead so when we slowed down it wasn't going to affect the traffic behind us. The cars that were in front of him moved over into the right lane and he hauled *** to catch up to me. I dropped from 5th to 4th until he got a little closer...then 3rd and slowed it to about 60 when he finally came up on me. I turned to look at him out the window, gave him the head nod and kept smiling my *** off. He was doing the same.
No bull****, like perfect ****ing harmony we jump on the gas at the same time...
...and...
...my car ****ing stalls for a split second!
-- break --
A little background before we go on. This has happened to me before! It hasn't happened in a while, but just when I NEEDED her to ****ing go, she tells me **** you I'm going when I'm damn ready. Really, it's like I jam on the gas in 3rd around 60 and NOTHING happens for a split second then she friggin launches like a bat out of hell. This even happened before I got my supercharger installed. I think I know what it is, but can't confirm, but I'll tell ya's in a minute...that's why I'm relying on you guys to tell me if I'm off.
-- break --
When my ride dumped on me for that split second I felt my heart drop because ol boy's truck sounded like something I just simply cannot describe other than absolutely badass as he got the jump on me.
My baby finally launched and that absolute neck breaking whip that I love took effect, she squatted just slightly and bounced fast as hell from 60. Next thing I know I'm ahead of him slightly and pulling. Towards the top of 3rd, I look out the side view and see his front quarter. Only his front friggin quarter? That thing is fast.
I shifted way too soon (about 5700-5900...ouch...flame me...but power is still there...lol) and he doesn't lose any ground until I get my RPM's back. I started pulling again: the view in my side-view shows his grill and it's getting smaller.
I'm gone. I throw my arm out the window with a thumbs up.
I shut her down at some point around 130. I let off the gas to slow me down, then hit 5th and cruised until he caught up. I'm cheezing the whole time. He gets up next to me, I turn to see him and he is cheezing/laughing/****-eating-grinning his *** off. I turn to throw him a thumbs up, he does the same and carries on with a HUGE grin on his mug.
I wonder if he knew that was going to happen. I don't keep ANY badges on my car indicating I'm boosted. Sometimes I like that way. Matter of fact, I hate all decals and badging on MY ride, period.
Either way, that was awesome. I cheezed all the way to work.
SO...in retrospect...I keep debating what motor he had. Isn't a popular motor swap for those trucks like a 350 or something? They're too small for 454's, right?
PLUS, I think he had a weight advantage on me. Those short, tiny trucks don't weigh anything.
Now for the split-second stalling. I'm some ways down the road, I look at my dash to turn my music back on, and I look at my TCS. It indicates it's on! Dude, I always shut that thing off. Either I really didn't shut it off this time, or the car turned it back on for me when I jammed on it, causing the whole "stall" thing?
Anyways, thoughts? I can't recall seeing anyone here race one of these, but I could be wrong.
Fun stuff!

Whoa, good story man! I love a well written kill. Sounds like you had the TC on. Mine hesitates too though, so idk. Mine feels like its only at half throttle when I nail it, then it will pick up WOT. Is that kind of what yours is doing?
Man, there's NO telling what that cat had under the hood. My first thought was Cyclone, but they are pretty rare and sound nothing like a V8 as you described. It was probably a well put together small block of some sort. See a lot of those S10 guys spraying too. No way to really tell. Good run.

Stone, thanks dude!
The whole stall thing. It's the best way to describe it: I jam on the gas and literally nothing happens for like a fraction of a second. It's crazy. Not necessarily half throttle because the car already has RPM's...but it's like...nothing...lol. Has to be TCS.
Anyway, chances are I won't see that dude again. I would really like to know what he's working with.

Nice run, sweet rides, and cool story.
Hard to say, but most V8 swapped S10's I have seen sport a SBC in one form or another. Usually 350 or a 350 based stroker.

Fun race.
'Preciate it! Love my Vortech...
Springfield Motorsports in Lorton VA. These guys used to deal excusively in Stangs, but have also branched out to Hemis. Their tuner is a dude by the name of Wheat (seriously, that's his real name). Honestly, I've talked to this dude a few times, and have talked to other people who have had work done by him. That dude is the shiz. EXTREMELY knowledgeable. That guy makes big horsepower out of these 3V's. I couldn't be anymore impressed. I dropped off my car and told them I want 500hp at the motor, I get it back with almost the same number at the wheels and still getting 20-21+ mpg on the highway.
