Default My car chirped 3rd gear...

I tried posting this a few days ago but for some reason it didn't post so here goes again...I was racing a buddy of mine. He was in a 2001 BMW 530i and I was in my 03 Stang. At the time of the race my car had all the mods in my sig except for the underdrive pulleys. His car is stock with a cone K&N filter. However, I had 2 other people in my car while he was alone in his. Anyway, I was beating him from light to light and even on the roll...I gave him a 1 car advantage and I still beat him. The funny thing is that on one of the runs, my car chirped the tires on the 1>2 shift which is no big deal, but then it chirped again on the 2>3 shift. It was crazy...all 4 of us had a "WTF, what just happened?!" look on our faces. This car has never ever chirped 3rd gear when I was in it alone. Now it does it at 80 mph with 2 other people in it...!! That was the craziest thing this car has done in the 4 years that I've had it...!!

My old stalled car was the same way..never did 2 ~ 3 except in one place on the highway. It would do it every time (a lot of oil there? pavement type?) never did figure that one out. It is something else though.. (in my old car 2 to 3 shift was at 80mph)... good stuff!!!

Sounds like you have a pretty stout setup!

It's called a lack of traction.

2nd to 3rd shift at 80 mph with 4.10s? Not a chance, haha

hmm. mine shifts 2-3 @ 60mph.. and i peel out when its cool out on stock tires.. 3-4 I get a chirp.. thats closer to 80mph.. maybe your tires are getting worn.. worse traction.

I put skinnies on the back...j/k. I have the stock size tires on the rear. I put brand new tires on the rear about 10,000 miles ago. My car is not making an insane amount of power, it's a bolt on car right now (check my sig...). I shifted it at about 6200 rpms into 3rd gear because I was a little late on the shift and the speedo read around 80 mph. The car had been sitting for about 8 hours and I drove it about 2 miles before it happened so the tires may have been cold. In any case I know you guys don't really know me but I wouldn't make up a story like this just to post something on the forums. Who knows, maybe there was an oil spill on the ground where it happened. I just wanted to share what happened and it DID happen. I don't know if it will do that again but I'm willing to try to prove it if anyone has any suggestions. Anyway, thanks for the jokes, you guys are pretty funny...!!
