Usually you get a higher trap speed, & lower ET.

Put your car on ice and tell me it's going to trap the same as the guy in the next lane who hooks up not only out of the hole but the entire length of the track. You spin the entire way down the road.

Spin does not make for higher trap.

....can't spinning go either way as far as trap speed goes?

If someone is 'spinning' with a blower and traps 106, do you really think with traction they will trap less? Are they racing on the moon?

A car that hooks up but bogs badly may trap less than an identical car that spins initially but hooks up and goes. If that same car spins badly and not just on the initial launch then the car that hooks up, even if it bogs, will probably end up trapping better.

Personally I don't think a blanket statement really covers this whole issue. Depends on the degree of spin we're talking about.

Good point, all depends on the amount of wheel spin.

Doesn't matter how much power you make if you can't get the car to hook up. If you're going to spend $5000 on a blower spend another $600.00 on some drag radials and rims. I was racing last weekend with a guy who has a 2007 GT500, I've seen him run at least 5 different days, each time he's done a major modification to increase H/P he is running a 14.1 @ 112. I asked him why he doesn't spend some money on tires he said all he care's about is horsepower if you can't use the horsepower what's the point?

With 2.0 60's I trap 112

with 1.7 60's I trap 110

consistently everytime.

Yeah the whole trap speed and spin issue is a gray area. There are some variables at play there.

My own car trapped 100 last year with a 13.9 ET. This year our track was a disgusting mess. Sixty foot times were .3-.4 higher and the car was going sideways in second gear. The car has pulleys and delete plates now so should trap higher. But it was trapping 99 this time and was actually worse off. The difference here was that I wasn't just spinning a little bit. I was spinning through first and well into 2nd gear. The car just would not hook up at all.

In extreme situations it can be a bad thing for trap. That's kinda what I was trying to illustrate earlier with that iced over road example.

Under some situations it does.

The ice example is not apples and apples.

Trap is an indication of power.

ET an indication of used power with traction, combined with driving ability.

I switch from DR to bias ply cheater slicks and loose 2-3 mph, but lower my ET .2-.3. I can't explain exactly how it works but the most part, if you spin more than normal you can and usually do trap higher. Obviously if you spin the first 400' it's not the same as what I am refferring to.

I'm with you simon. If you have a 2500WHP car on street tires spinning the entire lenth of the track I can see E/T going down. But a bad sixty and a little spin on the 1-2shift usally results in a higher trap speed.

It doesn't even need to be that extreme. I illustrated one example with my low whp car and terrible track prep. Trap suffered after adding mods that should slightly improve power output. The track was in such terrible condition that the spin got so out of hand it negatively affected trap. Again, low whp car.

I was trying to illustrate that the situation is not as simple as making the blanket statement that spin doesn't hurt trap speeds. Because it can and it can happen with a helluva lot less than 2500whp.
