Default "New" race car for me

We picked up this car yesterday. The plans had been in the works for a week or so and it worked out. The car is a 1965 Mustang Coupe. Has a 408 ci SBF, 215 heads, 750 carb, custom cam, C4 with transbrake built by ATO, ladder bar suspension, full cage, lexan windows, 9" rear w/4.56 and shortened axle running big slicks.

Car will be raced by myself and my dad. Hopefully he enjoys it as much as I do and he races every weekend he can.

I'm not going to retire my 06', but I would like to race it less and this more.

The car is much faster than my car. It is currently set up to run 11.60s off of a throttle stop. The car goes a lot faster than that though.

We have an A460 block in the garage that we may build and keep for a replacement motor.

The heads are not AFR or TF. They are off the shelf variety. No work done to the heads. We may or may not throw on a better set to run a bit faster. Next time I'm in the shop I will look again. Can't recall.

Cam specs, has a 650 lift, but I don't know the rest. It's coming in a packet of info with reciepts for the rest of the car.

a good set of 225cc trickflow heads, and a custom cam I bet would be worth the investment!

would love to see more of this car

Who knows what we will do. The car is stupid consitant and has one alot of bracket races. It's an established car within the drag race community and people recoginize it when they see it.

The first oppurtunity I wil have to get some video is going to be New Years day. Otherwise, test and tune every weekend after that. I would like to get him in the car and very comfortable staging and launching. He has never made a pass at a drag strip ever. So he is excited.

Nice find, Simon! I'm anxious to see more of this car as well. Good luck to you and your Pops with it.

I'm thinking the best way to show more of this car is to video some passes. Get some front wheels pulling off the ground and a good smokey burn out.

Should be fun.

You never mentioned you were thinking of this. Let me know you head to Sac and I'll try and make it out. I finally got my clutch squared away i think. Got the RXT upgrade and a new aluminum flywheel.

Well my dad purchased a 460 block with a toasted cylinder, good heads and covers for $100 last year. He wanted to build the motor, find a car and drive it around. We just started looking around and came across this car. I really didn't puch him to buy it because I wanted him to want it for himself.

We looked at a 71 Dodge Duster 340 the day before. Just wasn't what he wanted I guess. He already knew about this car and how deadly consistant it was so I think he had his mind made up already.

Wait until you see it. It's far from "pristine" when you get up close. I think he will race it this year, see how he like it, then we will probably get a new hood and sand and paint the entire car. Should be fun.

We will probably put in a passenger seat for "Cool April Nites," and the other cruises in town.

Go to Sac on the warmest dryest day of January (if there is such a thing) for a T&T.

I was pulling 1.59 60' in Redding with good track prep. Launching @4000 and riding the clutch just a little.
