R.I.P Blue

Only this kind of sh!t happens to me on X-mas. Blue was totaled this evening. Still not totally sure what happened. Some kind of mechanical failure caused me to loose control of the car on an interstate doing about 75. It looks like the passenger side wheel just broke apart. My wife and dog were also in the car. We were heading to my father in laws. Wasn't driving crazy for a change. The car just spun out. Hit a guard rail and curb. Then spun again and hit another guard rail before hopping a curb and hitting a sign. Car traveled a total of 150 yards before coming to a complete stop. What was weird is no one in the car was even slightly hurt. NO EVEN A BRUISE! The seats held us firmly in place. Mircle is all I can say. Blue has been the most interesting car I've owned. It went out in spectacular fashion.:( Now I have the tough dicision if I will get another sports car or something a little more grown up.

Grabber 12-24-2010 10:45 PM

Blue - I'm so sorry man!!!! I truly hope that you and your wife and dog are ok.

Any idea on how the wheel came apart and off just like that?

How bad is the damage? Total loss?

Again, I feel your pain man. I've had two cars totaled. I hope you are ok. To be safe you should go to the hospital or a doctor and get check out. I still have a bad next from my accident this past Jan. Luckily I go checked out right away.

Merry Christmas and best wishes. just think of Bolton humping a bottle warmer :D

My condolences BB!

We should have a service here at MF remembering our favorite moments together.

No nned to grow up either. Get what you want. I mean get a mustang!

Riptide 12-24-2010 11:37 PM

RIP

Get a new GT. :)

99GTvert 12-24-2010 11:38 PM

That's sucks....but it could have been worse.

Weren't you getting tired of the old turd anyway? Buy a Cobalt SS/TC!!

To me, it just seems like if you have owned a fast car for years, there will always seem like a certain emptiness if that car disappears without a proper replacement.

crash 12-24-2010 11:53 PM

First and foremost, I'm glad that you guys are ok, a life cannot be replaced. She was a good car, she gave you joy and fun. I'd vote for the 2011 GT if you can swing it, or a Terminator.

Well what I think happened. My wife hit a pothole about 2 weeks ago. There has been a slight knocking noise coming from under the car but no matter how hard I looked I couldn't find anything wrong. I think the cast aluminum wheel cracked from the pothole impact and finally just flew apart tonight. If you look at the wheel the inner part of the wheel with the lug nuts is still attached to the car but the outer diameter of the wheel is completely gone. I've been talking about a new red GT for a few months now. I'll probably part blue out and use whatever I get as part of the down payment on the new GT. It's either that or a SUV.:( Thanks for the well wishes all.

302army187 12-25-2010 03:39 AM

extremely sad to hear this!

I'm glad you are ok! Hopefully no injures surface in the weeks to come.

I doubt you will be able to not own a performance car. atleast not for long.

good luck in any route you go in.

boduke0220 12-25-2010 08:41 AM

MarkMan 12-25-2010 08:48 AM

Glad everyone was OK! That's pretty amazing. But sorry about the Car!

Stkjock 12-25-2010 09:16 AM

Glad you and the wife are ok D.

the 5.0 is def a great choice for the new ride! or you could buy a nice low mileage blown vert :-)

PurpleIcedGT 12-25-2010 09:32 AM

Blue I'm sorry to hear that! Most importantly, glad to hear that the family is safe. Blown GT Vert next? new 5.0?

Merry Christmas man!

Riptide 12-25-2010 09:46 AM

When you have finished mourning your loss. You may want to consider a used GT500. I've seen them go for bottom 30s on autotrader with 10K or less miles. Tousley had an 07 w/7K miles on it for $31,500 listed a couple weeks back.

perfect.disguise 12-25-2010 10:57 AM

Ouch, :(

5.0/GT500 would be a good choice. SUV wouldn't be bad either. After I pay off the Neon I'm pretty set on a used Escalade or BMW X5. ...Really like the Benz Mini Van as well..haha

tspence45 12-25-2010 11:35 AM

Sucks to hear, Blue. But, atleast you and your family are ok, and that's all that matters. Cars can be replaced.

89LX Coupe 12-25-2010 12:48 PM

srry to hear that. glad everyone is ok.

bluebeastsrt 12-25-2010 08:59 PM

Thanks again everyone. Didn't really feel to bad about it til my daughter seen the car this morning in the light and almost broke down crying. She loved the car as much as I did. I was just glad my wife walked away without so much as a scratch. She has decided we're getting a grabber blue 2011 GT. Of course it'll be named bluebeast2.0. I'll post some pics and a walkaround video. Going to need it when I try to part blue out on the SRT forum anyway.

302army187 12-25-2010 09:05 PM

you mean "bluebeast5.0" right? ;)

Those were dodge stratus R/T sedan wheels. But heres the kicker. I bought a refurbished wheel from newwheels.com. Guess which one flew apart?

Thanks man. My wife said she was amazed that I got the car straightened out or we would have hit the guardrail head on.
