Default Finally, 96 Cobra VS. Cobalt SS/SC.. with Vid

I apologize for the camera work fellas. I was alone and had to multitask to get the vid. The car was torque steering pretty bad, so my main focus was on staying out of the trees. The camera kept having trouble adjusting to the sunlight as well, but you can get a pretty good idea what is going on and where both cars stand. Alright, on to the details.... this is the same Cobra I made a thread about in the racers bench a few week ago. The Cobra mods are a Bama Tune, JLT intake, ORX, Magnapack cat-back, and bald Nitto 555Rs. He is also on stock 3.27 gearing. My mods are in my sig. We started at 40 mph, the Cobra did the honking, and both cars started off in 2nd gear. I shut it down at about 135 mph, the Cobra shut down prior to me, so don't let that last camera shot reflect the final result. He was not that far back when he shut down. I'm guessing he was 3-4 cars back when he let off. Here's the part that boggles me still. My Cobalt pulls hard on cars that trap about what I do, and has been keeping up with cars that trap faster. The Cobra in the vid traps 103-104 at 13.6, just as I trap 103-104 at 13.6, but when we go from a roll, well... I pull away. I think S8ER hit the nail on the head when he said my traps are being greatly affected by the traction I'm getting on the track. Anyway, here's the worst video work I have ever done in my life, lol. Enjoy.

Here's a quick dig run we did. Thought I'd add it for those curious to see how these cars stack up from a dig. As you all can see, I jumped on the 2nd honk pretty bad. He still caught back up and evened it out, but as soon as he caught up we had to shut it down due to a truck coming our way.

Good run man!! The filming wasn't that bad considering everything that you had to manage haha. I figured you would pull decently.

I take it he got all the issues fixed you were talking about??

Thanks man. Yea, he's in pretty good running condition now. He replaced his plugs and wires, and that tune definitely made a night and day difference as well. His trans is still a little rough around the edges, but he said he got through the gates pretty good on this run. I was absolutely shocked that I pulled him like that. I was expecting it to be MUCH closer. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with the ol' supercharged rental car, lol.

Thanks for the compliment jmd.

LMAO and you should be happy with it!! at least both of you got a good clean run in, and he salved most of his issues.

I can't wait to see you with a little bit of a tire under that thing and with the new tune and E85 what kind of times and mph she puts out.

I've got my fingers crossed for a +25whp gain from the ethanol. I'm running about 18 degrees of timing now, and with the corn I should be able to run 24-25 degrees without any knock. Once I get all that dialed in the way I want, she's going to get sprayed. Found out after a little research that you don't have to pull any timing with N2o when using E85, so I'm pretty stoked about that. It'll cool the intake temps down like a ****, and throw a few horses into the mix, two birds with one stone type of deal.

The worst thing about running a roots charger...... sitting on the sidelines at the track for an hour waiting for the S.O.B. to cool down and stop pulling timing, lol. Hopefully E85 and N2o will remedy that issue.

Nice run Stone. I can imagine the SS being a stellar roll racer.

If the Cobra hasn't any fresh tranny fluid in awhile, may I recommend three quarts of Valvoline Max Life Dex/Merc ATF? Also how are the fuel filters on both rides? They can really be a buzz kill when they start restricting fuel.

That my friend will be one sick ride if you go through with everything!!! pretty good at the track and killer on the street for sure!!!!!

One day this season a few of us need to get up and maybe go out to Rockingham or Piedmont.... I'd like to check out a few cars from the forum in person and watch them go on down the track as well haha.

Thanks man!

Neither of us has had our fuel filters changed in quite a while. Definitely wouldn't hurt to slap in some new ones. I'll recommend the Max life to him. Its on a rebuilt engine, about 50k miles ago, so I'm pretty sure it was changed when all that was being done, but at this point its due for another oil change for sure.
