Well today I was driving my 1988 Mustang GT which is bone stock (for now i just got it) minding my own business when i pulled into a gas station to get gas. These two punks pull in with a 1999 SVT contour blacked out windows and lowered. The one came up to me and asked what i had in it and i told him as if he didnt see it on the side of my car a 5.0. Then the question came wanna race. I said what do you have done to your SVT. He showed me under the hood he had a cold air intake exhaust and a chip. He said ill bet 20 bucks that i can beat you by 2 car lengths in 500 feet. I said ok ill race. We went to this back road that i know of and stoped. His buddy got out to be the flag man. I forgot to mention i have an AOD. we lined up I reved to about 1200 RPM and we took off. instantly i jumped out to a 1.5 car lenght between us. he stayed right there until i hit 65 then i pulled away at a fast walking pace. My speedo only goes to 85 so by the time i hit 90 i was 4 lenghts in front of him and pulling hard. When we were done i stoped and collected my 20 bucks and i was off. So my question is... Is that something to be proud of? and also I never tried it nor will i how fast will an 88 GT got on top end?

you could see a CAI, exhaust and chip all from looking under the hood?

anyway, were they both sticks? i dont know that ive seen an auto SVT contour, but even so, my safe money would be on the mustang...although i have seen some very good running SVT contours...

 

Yes i could see the CAI and exhaust and he said he had a chip. I never looked in his car to see the chip but im going by what he said. A win is a win and 20 bucks is 7 gallons of gas

 

They are pretty quick cars I have a friend that has one. Be proud of the win and the $20.

well, another thing, that if someone who drove a yugo HAD 20 dollars to lose...they probably also spent money modding it...ive seen a yugo with an LS1

 

 

So uh... how fast are stock 88 GTs anyway?

I believe SVT Contours are in the mid 15s stock.

 

Ive seen my buddys STOCK (besides a K&N filter) Fox go 14.5 in the quarter on a really fuc*ed up track.
