Quickshift vs LS1 Camaro SS
My first race since installing all of my mods. The race was against a Silver 6-spd 2002 Camaro SS. It was nothing special, but thought I would feel like "part of the group" and share. Well, we were just kind of playing around at first showing off a bit of torque(some ricers were around us). You know, the drive in 2nd gear at a decent MPH and tap the gas quick... Anyway, there was a left turn coming up and the light goes red. At this point he didn't seem interested at all, just puffing away on his cancer stick and cranking the tunes. I look over, making it obvious. He does the corner of the eye deal to see if I was going to do anything at the green. Good enough for me, I'm game.
So the light turns green and we both begin making our left turns, clearly letting 1st rev up a bit. Then it goes straight, and all hell breaks loose. Because I was on the inside of the turn, I had about a 4ft start ahead of him. All was clear and I hear him just stand on the damn thing. The instant I heard that I dropped the hammer. So much for the new tires, they break loose and struggle for traction making a nice high pitched squealing noise. As first gear rapidly climbs in RPM, I snap my attention to my right riew-view to see I jumped ahead bigtime. ****, here comes 2nd. A quick heel-toe and I palm the shifter, launching it into the next gear in a split 2nd. Wham! Tires scream in protest. As 2nd gear climbs the RPM ladder I start to see a bit of silver color in the corner of my right eye. I could hear both our engines screaming in unison, a deafening noise. Moments later I engage 3rd, things go a bit smoother this time. Only protest I get from the tires is a quick scratch and they hook, much better. The Camaro starts pulling like a sonofabitch. I just keep standing on it, and apparently so does he. Just before we hit 4th we shut down. He had me by a about a 1/2 car length by the end of the race. My first loss!
I tried to talk to him after the race, but he didn't seem the least bit interested. He just shot ahead and weaved in and out of traffic until I couldn't see him anymore. Well, we caught back up at another light about 20minutes later and I made it obvious that I was checking out his car. He looks over, and I nodded with a smile and said "Nice!". He said thanks and that was that. I've seen him around quite a few times, so hopefully we'll get a chance to meet later. Would be nice to have a friend from the dark side.
Man, that LS1 pulled like hell. I would really have hated to see what it could do on the highway with room to spare. I fear that I would have been a speck in his mirror at end of 4th, but what the hell....I think everything went ok for a mildly modded GT. I know I sure put up a hell of a fight
...thanks for reading my novel.

For sure.
I think it would have gone better if he was stock. He had at least exhaust done, maybe more. Just gets me wondering how much more I have to install to go head-to-head with a stock LS-1. In all honesty, from the way people talk here I thought he would just walk me from the start. Even at the high end of 3rd when we shut down he wasn't too far ahead at all.
But damn, he still whooped my ***. With enough time and money though...I'll be back. [:@]

JD1969, what was your best stock run with the M6?

For a point of reference, a stock 6-speed can run 13 flat with a very good driver and my 2.73-geared auto (3.23's are optional) went 13.52 @ 104. My girlfriend's auto went 13.36 @ 105.
