Just wanted to clarify my comment regarding the new Pirelli's.
They're obviously not drag radials, and they will lose traction just like the OEM's did if I dump the clutch @ higher rpm's.
However, they grab MUCH faster and smoother than the OEM's when I feather the clutch.
And an added plus is the wheel hop I had with the OEM's is gone.

Almost 10 years later and those damn Camaro's are still something to fear.

Elation to deflation is oh so short a space of time

A great launch is always a feeling to be cherished. Nice run.

I had Pirellis on my S197 too, along with 4.10s and all that good stuff. Once I installed lower control arms to help control wheel hop, the Pirellis did ok for me. I was able to launch pretty aggressively and pull consistent 2.0 60s, and it hooked on the street decent enough. Personally, I think a too much focus goes into rubber and not enough attention goes into the suspension. I've pulled 1.7 60s on cheap Falken 285s due to having the right suspension set-up.

I may do a suspension upgrade if wheel hop rears its ugly head again.

He may have had too much cam for his setup (gears, converter if an auto, etc). His cam may peak high in the powerband and it may have taken him a while to hit his "sweet spot" in the rev range. Just a theory. Nice run.

That also may have been a possible cause.
Thanks.
