Default Friday Night Runs

Had a couple nice runs figured I'd share.

1) First was a 2003ish looking Subaru (dont think it was STI). Anyways.. I come up to a redlight with this Subaru sittin there. He has a aftermarket Exhaust and a huge wing. I pull up even and I can hear a rough idle (cam mabye?). Theres 2 guys in it and they look over and start talking to each other. I give em a nod and figure its on.. The lights getting ready to turn green and I dont hear him revving or anything so I think mabye he doesnt want to race. Light turns green and he sits there, so I take off slowly and shift into 2nd. As I do I hear him take off alittle and he comes up even with me..

At this point, Im thinking "Damn.. this subby must really be pushing some power if he wants to roll race me." So I wave to him to take off first out of courtesy. He takes the punch and gets about half a car before I follow suit. I hear his turbo whistling pretty good right as I hit my power band in 2nd. I pass him up as I grab 3rd and as I put it into 4th I had about 3 or 4 cars on him. I slow down and he comes up even with both him and the passenger giving thumbsup; I do the same.

2) Im going down the highway at about 70 when I see a red TransAm looking thing coming up fast from the rear. He gets past me alittle bit and I see that it has Quad Exhaust but doesnt sound very loud. Im thinking mabye a v6 made to look like a v8? So I speed up and pull even with him to see if he wants to bite. He looks over and I hear him down shift. Right as I downshift to 4th I hear him take off. He gets mabye a half car ahead till I get on the gas and then I proceed to pull him pretty bad. Think about 5 cars at the middle of 5th. We slow down and exchange thumbs up. This was probably a v6 cus Im pretty sure a v8 transam would put up more of a fight if not beat me.

3) Heading home Friday night I come up to a 3 lane redlight. I notice some HID's coming up in the left lane and as he pulls up I notice its a red Cobalt SS. He must have a subwoofer cus his bass is pretty bumping. All of a sudden the music stops and his window rolls down just a hair. So im thinking alright sweet hes gonna race.
Light turns green and we both launch about at the same time. I hear him spinning pretty bad combined with a supercharger whine but he stood no chance against my launch. I grab 2nd, 3rd and start slowing down as I put it into 4th with me ending a Buslength or 2 ahead.
I slow down to about 40-45 and he comes up even wanting to go again from a roll where I guess he thought he might have better odds. I down shift to 2nd and wave him to go. He takes off and gets about a fender in front of me before I stop his pull and start running away again. I rounded up 4th gear with him ending about mabye just a buslength behind.
Slow down again and he comes up even this time with his window all the way down and has a big smile on his face and we exchange thumbs up.
Pretty fast Cobalt, loved the sound of the blower.

Well thats all, hope they werent too boring.

Definitely a V6 firebird, an LS1 would've/could've/should've put a good bit of ground on you from a roll like that. Good kill on the Subby. Sounds like that SS must of been stock or just an intake. I had one with a 2.8 pulley, injectors, exhaust, tune, etc, and it was brutal from a roll, especially a 40-45 mph roll. It would pick up 26 mph between the 1/8th and the 1/4.

You dont have the one in your sig anymore? How hard was it to launch that car?

Na man, I traded it for the TBSS, and then gas shot up to over $4 a gallon, lol. It was a MF'er to launch on the street. 1st gear was 100% useless. On the track, I could feather it down to a 2.1 60'. I can attach a couple vids showing what it did from a dig as opposed to a roll if you want me to (against the same car from a roll and dig).

OOH my bad I thought TBSS was a cobalt SS for some reason lol. But then I looked again at your sig and thought I guess 13.7 would be kind of slow for a Cobalt with 360 RWHP. doh. Yeah I kinda guessed it would be a PITA to launch.

Thanks bro! I wish you the best of luck over there and hope you have a safe flight home. I was over in Iraq about 7 months ago for a year, Get home safe Brother.

Thanks man! It's crazy thinking that as of tomorrow it'll have been a year since I left. This has by far been the longest deployment for me ever, I'll be glad for it to be over. I'm definitely ready to post some post-deployment stories in this section...if you know what I mean...

Haha, yea, that would be slow as ***** for the power. Mine made 250 WHP, and 230 WTQ, but the powerband was flat as an arrow from 2500 RPM to way on up into the RPM range. It ran 13.4 at 106 mph, and a 9.0 at 80 mph in the 1/8th.... so you can see how it really picked up on the big end. The TBSS responds well to mods too though, so I'm pleased with it. It'll just never come close to the top end that the Balt had.

Oh my god I couldnt imagine have been deployed that long, 11 months and some change was brutal enough. Any plans for the steed when you get back?
