Read my post called Drag Strip Times. You'll see a lot of good advice there. And YES lower the tire pressure. BUT if you can, bring a portable compressor with you so you don't ride them low home. That was the only thing I forgot, so I ran with full pressure. Lower them to about 20 psi....

Well last chance for street cars was this month until next year. Here's a video of the runs I made.

Firebird Night Fever Oct '05

The CAI I put on since last time dropped my ET by .2 sec.

My new personal best is
60' 2.35
1/8 10.373
1/4 16.11
MPH 85.24

Well Giddeup- I watched that video and on your last run the 16.8 you trapped at 88+mph, this is because you spun tire.. I imagine your 60's were all still in the 2.35+ area. An 88 trap speed should be a low 15, even a high 14. Keep practicing theres more in it :-D Good job on the new personal best!

Blk_96: If you are an auto, yes I would use brake torqueing but not to the point where you are spinning the tires sitting still.. Just enough to feel the car load. The V8 has enough power to spin the tires so you're just trying to get rid of the lag between punching the gas and the revs jumping and the car finally getting full power to the wheels through the tranny. Make sure your TCS is off if you have it. The only real advice for an auto noob is to sit back and enjoy

I have a basically stock 89gt with 3:73 gears and like everone has been saying, you have to leave the line nice and easy or the whole run will be junk with a crappy 60 ft time. all I have are 225/60/15 yokos, I heat them up a little than leave the line at Idle I cut a 2.07 the other night not great but not bad for those tires, any more than idle tires would just spin, here is a vid of a run with a 2.14 60 nice and easy. http://jusspress.com/day.php?userid=...entTime=171441

I would guess that you can leave the line a little higher than idle. Just modulate the clutch to maintain traction and I think you'd get a slightly better launch than you have been.. Allthough a 2.07 IS good as far as traction goes, maybe theres more in it after 60 foot that you could gain if you were launching higher.

Yup I've got some stuff I want to try for next season. By my 6th run I was getting worn out lol. It took me till my 4th run to figure out that I could do almost 90 in 3rd gear and still be under the redline. So i'm going to try to shift sooner into 2nd and run the most of the track in 2nd and 3rd since that seems to be where my best powerband is. Thanks for the tips.

most likely you wont get much out of shifting earlier from first to second, that works sometimes if when you take it higher into the RPMS you are past your torque band in second when it engages. How early are you thinking of shifting? I would guess no more than 750 under redline would help if it helps at all. I know if you were shifting into 4th gear you were definetely missing out on some speed. Are you powershifting into third? That may help. Do you spin into second? If so you might want to instantaneously feather the clutch into second to reduce spinning tire into second. I'm guessing with your 60' times you're still losing time somewhere else down the track you might want to work on your powershifts and quicker shifting.

definetely practice! the best part of working to get better at drag racing is that practicing is sooooooo much fun! You'll get the hang of it, theres a lot of learning the car too and not many 05+ V6 owners here to give you advice right now on shift points and such.. If you managed to get your car on the dyno and had a torque curve to look at I could give more advice on theoretical best shift points. You're the guinnea pig who's learning the proper launch RPM and shift points for the 05+ V6'rs, not to put any more weight on your shoulders or anything but we're relying on you to learn from haha. How much tire do you spin into second? Do you chirp into third? I've never driven a V6 05 so I'm really interested. and what do you launch at?
