2012 Mustrang GT vs. centri'd SN95
I wouldn't try to control tone with the mid-pipe. Thats what cat-backs and mufflers do, as well as pipe diameter and exhaust tips. Cats act as mufflers as well. IMO, use your intermediate pipe to make the power where you need it, not to control tone, thats not what they're for.
FYI on something I read on another forum:
There were two guys on Fort Rucker with 5.0's that were previous S197 owners that had H-pipes on their 4.6L Stangs, so they put the H on their 5.0's as well. The two of them were BS'ing, comparing mods one day in the PX parking lot, when I came pulling up in my 5.0. Both guys asked me to do a flyby and also rev a bit. After I did so, they both said they were going to get X-Pipes to replace their H's. I asked to hear one of their cars do a flyby and to be quite blunt about it, the H didn't sound anywhere near as deep and aggressive as the X-Pipe does. It sounded raspy by comparison.
"Now that's the exact opposite of the same setups on the 3V's.
The X's were notoriously raspy, while the H would give a deeper exhaust note without any of the rasp.
I have no rasp at all with my setup on the 5.0, so I can believe it!"
So... X's on these cars 2 different people reported sound good and not raspy.. I'll be going with an X on mine
actually placed the order today for the gears, o/r x, boss intake

but all the vids on youtube that ive watched the o/r x's dont sound raspy on the 5.0's at all.
did you end up going with this exhaust of off AM?

btw are you keeping the stock catback/midpipe set up? the xpipe dosnt stretch all the way to the axlebacks does it?
skip a mid-pipe altogether and get direct exhaust injection headers
everyone knows exhaust flowing back into the engine on a cycle makes more horsepower

Ok. I didn't want to mention it but I was thinking about turbo charging my Vette. I got to thinking about it and how in efficient even turbos are (compressor efficiencies of about 80% at best).
Since a turbo's function is to pressurize incoming air and force it into the upper motor, and turbos are driven by high pressure exhaust gas created from the combustion process, couldn't I just bypass the turbo altogether and route my headers back into the throttle bodies?
Since I have CFI, I could balance the DEI (direct exhaust injection as I just coined it) by feeding one header into each throttle body. Yes, the charge air wouldn’t be that cold, but it would be under a hell of a lot more pressure.
I attached a quick sketch below:

There are still a few things I need to work out:
1) How do I get the CFI aircleaner to fit in a way that hides this plumbing?
2) Does anyone make a V-band clamp that will bolt an exhaust header to a CFI throttle body?
3) What pinion angle should I use in my rear-end? I’m sure there will be a noticeable difference in torque output.
What do you guys think?

yep on the 3 valve mid-pipe x = raspy, h = better. So far a couple of people have said the opposite holds true for the 5.0. I guess i'll find out. I have the gears scheduled to be installed on thursday same guy that did my 4.10s on my '07. then I think next Saturday I'll install the boss intake and x-pipe.. the x-pipe is a bbr, this one: http://www.blowbyracing.com/bbr20mugtofx.html I might go dyno it after the installs, a before/after would be better, maybe i'll see if i can do that. I'm going with a tune from a local tuner, so we can data log and check AFRs on the dyno and such. I believe he is basing his tune off of a BBR tune though. i'm going to ask him to keep it toned down a bit, not to advance the timing too much, i want my #8 piston to last
@stone your mid-pipe can cause all sorts of tone changes and trumpetting you can clearly hear the difference from an h-pipe to an x-pipe no matter what mufflers you are using.

I agree 100%, mids do change the sound in all kinds of funky ways. I'm just saying that its easier to adjust that change to your liking by using whatever cat-back or muffers. I wouldn't avoid an X-pipe just because it sounds raspy with certain combos.
we are going out again tonight, I'm probably going to tell everyone they look really good tonight at the stop lights... at least I think that is going to be the troll of choice, which I stole from maraman mind you
oh jesus I forgot to tell you guys, last weekend there was a little green 90's something neon with a roll cage in it and seemed to be gutted pretty good... and it was scooting whenever he got on it, I guess the kid was all motor but he swapped an N/A 2.4L in it and completely built the long block and swapped to a high compression short block... thing looked and sounded like just a 95 neon with a fart can on it until he got on it... it was a pretty neat little ride
EDIT: it was probably something like this setup but a little quicker
