Default Fox vs mazdaspeed6

So I had my first run in the fox. Was taking a little stride in the fox the other afternoon when I notice a MS6 coming up fast and slows next to me. He gives me a thumbs up on the car and says it sounds nice and if I wanted to do a quick run. The road was pretty empty so I agreed. We started somewhere around 50mph and I stayed in 3rd between 3-3.5k rpm, a bit low IMO. We take off and he gets a quick bumper on me but as my revs climb I pull even. Hit 4th and pull slightly ahead and let off. I asked at the next light if it was stock to which he replied, "its got a couple things", he waived and turned. Not too familiar with slighty modded MS6s, figure they may trap 105-107mph? So I'm happy with the outcome, Im trying to be easy on the car as Im not sure how lean or rich the car might be running, it definitely feels like it needs some finetuning.

From what I hear, it takes a lot of mods to run low 13s-high 12s with one. If I had to guess, I would think a tuned, full exhaust MS6 would be low 13 capable, but I doubt it would trap over 105. Maybe someone that has actual experience with one will chime in...

Good run either way, Dark. You need to hook us up with another vid of that Fox. Love that car man.

Really? I figured them being awd it would be somewhat easy to hit low 13s compared to their fwd ms3 counterpart. I'm not sure what mods gets them to what power but I've read on forums about some ex ms3 owners saying they can get to around 280-285whp with the basics and tune, that's gotta be a pretty nice increase over stock. I should've backed down to 40 to go to 2nd gear and held 4th a little longer, it would've yielded much better results. I'll try to get better footage of the fox in the next couple days for you.

I drove an MS3 for a little while. Did an intake and cat delete. Sucker def pulled hard, only problem was that the gearing was so low and the turbo ran out of breathe at 5500 rpm or so...making for quick burst of power/small power band between shifts. In other words, I don't think the power they make is the problem, but the gear/turbo combo Mazda used.

That's right you did own one. That powerband does suck, I looked online for graphs and they do seem to flatline at around 5500 and start dropping after 5800 or so in stock form. Luckily the fox seems to like going past 6k, I hate short powerbands.

So do I, would definitely rock one as a daily. The fox has a built and balanced 306 with a Holley systemax top end kit(includes a lunati cam), 70mm tb, bbk LTs, o/r x pipe, promotion t-5 and built 8.8 w/ 3.55s.

ms6 stock have the same engine as the ms3 just a little heavier, with a downpipe, a turbo-back exhaust and a boost controller they will run low 13s , the k04 turbo runs out of steam at 5500 rpm at around 15 psi , and 1st and 2nd gear are boost limited to avoid wheel- hop, i did swapped the turbo on mine ms3 with a garret 3071r and a bunch of other mods , it dynoed around 350whp at 21 psi , the 2.3 dsi engine is weak and not a good platform to work with , i blew the piston pin on cylinder #2 which open 4 holes on the block . hope it helps.

Damn that sucks, I hope that never happens to me because it must not be a good feeling.
