Default Track times... Question?

alright... I gave it one last go at a different track this year; for a basically stock 00 gt (short shifter and catback). LT's and vt stage 2 cam go in this winter.

However im still kinda pissed.

R/T: .028
60: 2.260 [:@]
1/8: 9.419 @ 76.64
1/4: 14.492 @97.24

I couldnt hook for ****... the track was aweful (tri-state dragway cinci ohio). I powershfit (which needs to stop.... my tranny is goign to hate me). But anyways I shift pretty good, i've improved a lot over the last year... So someone please explain this to me...

https://mustangforums.com/timeslips/...p?TimeSlipID=6

I have a better 60' and better mph... How are they still nearly .2' ahead of my time.

My 60' is pissing me off... sorry I need to vent... I was cutting 2.15's beginning of last year, with 245's on... Over the summer i got cobra rims with 275's eagle f1's. I havent cracked 2.2's with those tires on there. (22psi) I'm not sure if its my driving or what.... just pissed.[:@]

an x pipe and a cold air intake certainly gives more power than a catback, and I wouldn't say a 14.4 is all that bad. Magazines could only get your car to a 14.2, and you got bigger tires.

WHY in the world would wider tires take off .2 seconds? Wouldnt that help traction?

You're point is taken... but im not sure you understand. If his X pipe and cai was giving him more power combined with his driving... he would trap at a higher mph; therefore making up the time.

depends on your shifts and when you spin tire. perhaps with powershifting you are spinning into second.. Maybe since you got quicker in shifting you're spinning more- even with wider tires. Maybe you aren't spinning much tire off the line but when you let out the clutch completely and mash the gas you are beyond 60' and spin them. Larger tires and wheels don't always mean better traction, they do (almost) always mean more weight. More weight always takes more power to move. If you are still launching the car exactly as you were with the 245's maybe you aren't using all the of the traction potential the wider tires have and are only getting the negatives of heavier tires and rims. I'm not saying your driving has gotten worse, but maybe it just hasn't adjusted as much as it needed for the new tires. What tires did you run when you had 245's? If they are different perhaps they just had a softer compound? I know I would get better traction with 205/50/15's in Falken Azenis' than I do with my Comp T/A 215/45/17's. OK Not as significant of a width difference but none the less. Also the 275 is just a general rating of width, actual widths and traction patches can differ from their rated width significantly even within the same line of tires. All things to be considered.

NOT to mention track conditions and preparation techniques may differ from last year and should also be considered.

Hahaha, i got a kick out of that... thanks. Superbowl baby!

Sicride, thanks for the input; my new tires are the same softness wise. I just found it wierd, usually if you have a faster '60 and faster mph... you SHOULD be faster.

eh, no problem. where abouts in pittsburgh are you from anywho? I'm from Wexford/Gibsonia/North Hills area. Did you make these runs at PRP or Quaker City? Or were the runs at different tracks? As far as lower 60's and higher trap speed, certainly you would usually get a lower 1/4 time. You know I'm not exactly an expert on this, but maybe your staging has an impact on that? I don't know how it would adversly effect your times down the middle of the track- but perhaps somehow it does. I do know that typically with no other changes to conditions or modifications to the car the lower the 60 usually the lower the mph too and the more you spin tire the higher your trap ends up being.. This doesn't exactly make clear sense to me either. *shrug*
