First time at strip.
So this guy I know wanted to race me in his lancer and it was his idea to take a trip out to byron today and we raced. my best time was 13.556 @ 102.74 and his was 13.4 @ 100.69.
We raced about 4 times simultaneously and he was always about .1 sec faster but usually 2-3 mph slower at the end.
I've only got the CAI and 93 performance tune from bama. I took off the UDP and sold them after being disappointing and finding a buyer so those weren't on. He has a full exhaust and I want to say trans work. He's got those duel paddle shifting clutchless trannies or whatever they are.
Would a bama race tune and taking out my spare help much? I had no problems sticking with my tires so weight reduction would still be good? I did better by about a tenth on average without TCS. No shocker there but if there's any other tips, I'd be happy to learn.
I've got some video that I'm posting on youtube and I'll link to them when they are up.
Only other thing I went up against was a stock-ish VW GTI and it only went 14.727@101.1
my first run (ever) was 13.967@103.83 and I was red in the face after accidentally starting a burnout in the water while still in reverse
Skip to 2:35! It's not much but hey, I thought shoving my iPhone between my headrest and the seat was pretty clever
that run was 13.733@101.97

Drag radials or MT ET Streets and smoke his ***... buy my tires

Planning ahead is a smart idea. Get a set of Lcas to help with your launch. I couldn't really tell but it seemed like you just rolled into the throttle and didn't preload the suspension or launch at all.
I just ran last week and got into the 12s. I gave the tires a quick spin, just to clean them off, and then I pulled up to pre-stage/stage first to get set. I held my rpms to the point a little before my tires would start to spin, and then id roll into it. It may be different for you but if I slam the throttle from the launch I'll spin on street tires with the 4.10s. Try preloading a bit next time and launching. It should make a difference and cut your 60' times a bit.

I tried that one run but I must not have held the brakes enough because I jumped forward a little bit and I didn't want to unstage (not sure if thats a thing) so I just stopped.
I'll be sure to practice that in the meantime.

This is usually the part where I suggest upgrading the tires & suspension, but you said you had no problem sticking, and it seemed to hook on the video.
It also sounds like an automatic. If so, your biggest gain would be upgrading to a 3.73 or 4.10 gear. Do that and/or an upgraded torque converter and it'll launch like a bat out of you know where. And THEN you'll need the upgraded tires & suspension!

should have kept the UDPs.. they are basically good for about .1 in the 1/4 mile. you wont feel the difference but it's there, with bolt ons you only have so many you can do so every little bit helps. CMDPs are another one that you wont feel a gain on. with 4.10s, cmdps, udps, cai i ran 13.5@102, and that was with a 5200' DA (3900' elevation)
so far the best cai+tune time from an 06 mustang was 12.9@10? i can't remember the trap, but he hit 12s, his stock time was 13.2 though
at the worst point in the day you had 1112 DA, which your best run if it was ran then corrects to 13.3@103.
as others have said, gears, o/r x pipe and udps/cmdps would help a lot, i'd expect you'd be able to be in the high 12s too much more practice. with tires mid 12s.
