S281SC...
Really short encounter... the car is pretty hurt so I've been driving it pretty casual for a while now. The knock sensors are picking up the audible noise from the engine now (156K) and pulling timing most of the time since it's been hot here (80 by 7am here is completely unusual and sucks). I've been planning on a new short block when this one finally starts giving me death signs...for now it's just CTD. I also need to bleed my clutch hydraulics as I get locked out if I push the RPMs past 6K... since the engine is dying and I've been taking it easy I haven't bothered with it. I knew if I got into a serious run it would be death the second I needed to shift.
This morning was a nice typical morning (53F) and the car was running pretty good so I took the longer route to work. As I approached a red light on the highway it turned greeen. Sitting at the light was a black Saleen (new edge) and no one else around. I had momentum so as I went by I dropped down to 2nd and the Saleen accelerated off the line enough for me to hear the whine of the blower. I was expecting him to blow past so when he hit my back tire I got into the gas. He immediately let off and wouldn't come up again.
We were in extremely light traffic with no one in front of us so when we hit the next light I figured if he was game we could get in a clean race. Knowing my clutch situation I decided I would wrap first (55mph) and try for 2nd... probably wouldn't happen but if I couldn't get it he was going to win anyways.
Light turned green and I heard his tires instantly start spinning... I tried to feather out the clutch but my tires decided they didn't want to grab either... I let out of the gas enough to get traction and then planted the gas again... We went from side by side to me instantly putting him to my back bumper by the end of first.... I tried to hit 2nd but it was a no go. Expecting him to blow past I hit the clutch twice and slid into 2nd gear... but he had let out apparently the second he saw me yank him in 1st.. Not sure how he would have done if he had stayed in it... (I'm not 100% sure how fast they are)
I tried to talk to him at a light but he was turning and I was going straight so I didn't get much out of him. It was a 281SC and he has never ran it at the track is all I managed to get before the light changed.
Was fun to actually push on the gas for once... so far the motor hasn't come apart so I'm back to babying it for a while.

Good attempt man! Sucks about thr clutch issue on top of the motor stuff lol.
Was it a 99-04skeets or 05-09?? The 2vgood cars eas inly rated at 365hp and the 3v cars are 400hpyou like posted above. If i remember right the magazine times was 12.8-13.0's for the 2v's and a hair daster for the 3v's so pretty much its should be a drivers race with your car!

Sorry forgot to add that...it was a new edge (2v car)... from reading they are lucky to see 12s stock. Sounded great but wasn't as fast as I expected I guess.
The clutch issue is my fault.. I put on the headers then went back and heat wrapped my hydraulic line. While I had it apart I did the drill mod and didn't get it bled properly. I should just stop being lazy but not being able to shift is probably the only reason the engine is still alive. LOL

Yeah it's had a hard life... We accounted for almost 1000 passes at Cordova. A few times doing 40-50 passes in a day. I'm not too surprised and it's definitely not dead yet but I would rather fix it early than let it grenade down the road. At this point you only hear audible noise between 1500-2000 then it's gone. Can't wait to get a fresh bottom end in it.
