Default Beat a Challenger.....

Okay, so this isn't so much as bragging as it is a welcomed surprise. While street racing is dumb and immature, a quick impromptu dash at 4:30am on an empty street maybe could be sneaked in as a sinful pleasure?
Okay, the good stuff, while driving to work this morning, newish Dodge Challenger(I believe it was an SRT-8, but could have been an R/T as all it's emblems were removed, although it did have SRT-8 wheels), just black with just as black window tint was in my nearside lane.
A trash truck was up ahead on the Challenger's lane, so I anticipated it's driver accelerating
strong from the light we were stopped at to get around me and the trash truck. Of course I let them do their thing and waited for the next light under safer conditions to see what the Challenger had(I totally expected to lose and was prepared for such). Upon the following stoplight, the Challenger was revving it's engine, creeping up slightly. That Dodge was LOUD, exhaust looked factory(SRT-8 style) and I could hardly hear my car! I just basically put my foot on the brake, brought the revs up to about 2K, put the shifter in 1(I have an automatic) and left the traction control on. Light turns green, I make a sick getaway and with each shift I swear it would catch me, turns out it never did, we got up to at least 100mph(about a 1/4m stretch of even, empty street) and the Challenger turned at the next light(where L.A. county jail is, I'm thinking it was a Sheriff's guard on their way to work). Pleasant surprise kill for a 100% stock 2009 automatic GT(maybe I have a Wednesday build-LOL). Just thought I'd share

I'm thinking it was a RT or someone just messing with you in an SRT.. No offense, but I don't see you haning with an SRT if you're bone stock in an auto.

I am thinking an R/T too(with SRT-8 styling mods). I know an SRT-8 would have gotten around me regardless of my sweet launch. I've raced enough(at the track!) to know what most cars are capable of

How fast are those R/Ts and SRT 8s? With a decent driver, I wouldn't consider the '09 out of the race. Hell those challengers are fvckin land yahts.

I'm wondering if he missed a gear.

My wife has an '09 R/T and I swear out of the hole it feels faster than my '10 GT w/ factory 3.73 gears. I think my car would beat it on the big end, but the Challenger has a major torque advantage (390 ft/lb) and it hooks up way better too.

Interesting race though, that's for sure!

Awesome tech! No reason at all to put this in the street/strip section!

Having owned both a 08 Mustang GT auto w/3.23 gears and now a 09 Charger RT (5.7) auto, I can say that it's a fair race between the two, dead stock. Either one was just as quick as the other (stock) so I can see the op beating the RT if the dude didn't launch right.. SRT-8, is a different story.. especially the 392 lol
