05 Corvette Z06 ?
There is no such thing as a 2005 ZO6. Chevy made the C5 type of Covette in a ZO6 in 2001 with 385 HP rating, in 2002-2004 in 405 HP rating.
For 2005 they did not offer anything but the standard vette, now the C6 model, with 400 HP.
For 2006, they have just released the new C6 ZO6 with 505 Hp rating, in addition to continuing the standard 400 HP model.
Typical 1/4 times, stock with the M-6, as tested by, say, Motor Trend or Car and Driver:
2001 ZO6 (385 HP) - 12.9 @ 110
2002-2004 ZO6 (405 HP) - 12.7 @ 113
2005 C6 (400HP ) - 12.8 @ 111
2006 ZO6 (505 HP) - 11.7 @ 127

Didn't ranger run an 11.8 stock or something ridiculous. I want to see him drive the new z06 with 100 more hp and see what times he can turn.

Since when did Helen Keller start driving for Motor Trend? Those times are way slow.

But these tests are CONSISTENT measures that can be compared to other tests of other cars by the same magazines (e.g., 05 Mustang GT, 13.8, Porsche 911 S, 12.9) to give a fair indication of the relative performance of all cars. That's the whole point.
And Helen Keller does test for anybody, anymore.
She's dead.
New ZO6s test in the mags at 11.7 at about 127, which means about 11.5-11.4 stock for a good owner. The one I ran against the other night did about 11.2 at 130+, but it had headers, a tune, and drag radials (my set of drag radials, by the way)
I doubt you could get them into the tens without something more than headers, open exhaust, and air box. A cam, etc, maybe. Will be about a year before anyone has aftermarket upgrades for the LS7's 2.2" 12 deg heads, but a cam with headers ought to get it to right at 500 RWHP (most test at 455-460 stock). I know from experience that 500 RWHP C5s could do 109 -10.8s.

I think everyone realizes that Motor Trend and Car and Driver leave a little margin: the are careful with their test cars because the manufacturers want them back in good condition, otherwise they may not get cars to test next time. I got 12.4s out of my stock '02 ZO6 when new, so I know its a fact. There is also a safety factor, something the mags explicitly talk about: several years ago Motor Trend got really aggressive and started posting better times than the other mags. Then they destroyed a Mercedes AMG sedan during a test that killed one of their editors: they published a regret and stated they were going back to conservative testing.

In the October issue of R & T, they got a best of 12.3 @ 116.6 mph out of the new ZO6. I am looking at the December issue of R & T now, and in the "Your Turn" mail section, several people are expressing their disappointment in R & T's #'s, with nasty letters. What R & T says in response to these letters is basicly this. They say that the #'s supplied by Chevy are using speedshifting, with no throttle lift, as reported by Chevy. R & T tested the car w/o speedshifting it- (ie, throttle lifting), but still with quick shifts. Also, a GM professional test driver was there with the car during the tests. With speedshifting and no throttle lift, the best he did was a 12.1 @ 118. I have yet to see an independant source get the #'s out of a new, production 06 ZO6 that GM claims. Some of the prototypes were tested with near GM #'s, but those were'nt the final production models, and some were tested with serious rubber upgrades. I'm not saying an 11.7 out of a bone stock 06 ZO6 isn't possible, im just saying that's probably in the most optimal conditions with a well rehearsed driver, banging gears hard. I don't think we will see a 127 mph trap speed out of a stock production 06 Z06 in stock rubber by any independant source, as well.
