i got called out by a Mercedes E320 at the street races last friday. this dude was bragging about how he had payed 84000 for the car and this and that, sun roof, white leather bladabladabla! anyhoo we lined em up and i forgot to warm my tires so i proceeded to do so. well he said im gonna warm mine too. i heard his engine rev and the back wheel spun probly about 1/2 a turn. i thought to myself im wasting my time/gas. well we are this far might as well run them. i honked 3 times and we both launced side by side. in second gear i pulled about a length and a half then hit third and pulled about another length on him. by the time it was done every one said that i had about 2 and a half to 3 lengths on him. and im the one who got called out!

First off, he didn't pay 84,000 for it. He didn't pay anything close. In fact, I don't think you could spend $50,000 if you tried on an E320. If it was an E500, he still couldn't have paid that for it.

What was he smoking? A V6 Benz against your Stang? Is he high?

 

The only E class that costs 84,000 is the E55 AMG and that has 469hp and 516 torque. You can't mistake the two. The E320's are semi-quick for a 6er. But you could take one anyday.

 

if he had bought the 80k+ version, he would have handed you your ***. He was obviously a bull****ter, way to put him in his place.

Wonderful. I love it. congratulations and you have my heartfelt thanks. Obviously, I am the owner of some German iron (see signature), and for the record sticker price was $84,850 (but I wasn't stupid enough to pay even within 10%of that and I immediately wonder about anyone who brags about how much he pays::: I brag about how LITTLE I paid). But to point, but there is NOTHING i disrepsect as much as the owner of a Mercedes or a BMW M series who thinks his car is hot. AMG and M series owners seem to think their cars are hot (and okay, the new V10, 500 HP BMWs can do low 12s, that isn't too shabby for a stock car) About the only thing I routinely beat up on when I am out cruising in the vette is an M series Bimmer. I have lots of victory stories but they are irrelevant.

Umm dude... The AMG's and M's are amazing cars. They are very capable of 12's bone stock and 11's with very little mods. And if he ran an E55, it would have torn him a new one. Heck, an E55 will tear a stock Z06 to shreads.

 

I'll be the first to agree, the AMG are incredible cars. Lots of power. But they are heavy. To some extent I like the philosphy: put enough HP behind it and it can lick the world in spite of weighing 4200 lbs. Some can do in the low 12s, and will give an 01-04 Z06 fits. But the new Z06 (11.5-11.7 inthe 1/4?) -- no worry.

The M5s and M6s and to a lesser extent, M3s can be be quick, too (mid 12sO. But to be blunt, I have a 10 second flat, completely streetable car in the vette (and i mean, it is completely docile and quiet on the street), and one of the joys of all the money spent and all the frustration I lived throughy before finally getting it dialed in right, is that I love to bait AMGS and Ms in the vette, and while it IS unfair, I don't care. Most AMG owners don't seem to be able to tell a modded car from stock, and I really think they don't care because they are pretty arrogant which increases the fun: one guy in a convetible AMG laughed at me at a light, with his 9 year old son in the seat next to him. When the light went green I stayed alongside him up to 40, then put five lengths on him in about two seconds while waving at him with my free hand, that must have burst his bubble.) But really there are very few occasionas when i run into one on the street when I have chance to "humilate" them, and I almost never see them at the track. Frankly, the owners don't seemn to be "car people" which is maybe what is direspect the most.
