Can I beat a Z24?

Thanks for the feedback guys! The reason I was a little worried is because it is a 2.2 DOHC, one of the newer ones. It's not just a regular Cav. He's losing a bit of horsepower, I think, because of the serious backpressure he has.
03Yellow, I know it's "still a Cavalier", but an SRT-4 is "still a Neon" and it would beat the holy hell out of both of us!

I'm pretty sure the Cavy will give a v6 a good run for its money, if not beat them. And the newer ones with the 2.2 DOHC engines are even quicker. I'm not sure about the 1/4 time for the Cavy's from 02-05, but the 0 to 60 time is around 7.8 or so. So a good race for v6's.

I say you just race him.... If you lose, you're a loser and lost to a cavalier and will disgrace every Mustang owner in the entire world. If you win, you still lose because you wasted your time racing a cavalier....

Sorry Mikehawke... I'm not as knowledgable about certain things as most people here. Basically, I think his exhaust is too wide, and whenever he redlines, it sounds like his car is really sick and about to die. Plus, for some reason when he floors it, it seems like he moves like, 3 feet.

backpressure = myth
The only thing moving exhaust down the pipe is the scavanging from the cylinders as the pistons travel up and down. Exhaust gases pushing back upstream would cause flow problems... why the hell would you want backpressure?

Be careful I'm not sure of what year it was but chevy released a VERY detuned version of the Z24 (I'm sure that it wasn't a 97 or a 98 it was early 90s late 80s) that was puttin out like 200 hp. A newer Z24, you have nothing to worry about.

You forgot to mention his turbo or nitrous.

Everyones saying hes gonna be any easy kill. If its a 97-01, than you might have your hands full. If his is a 5 speed, like you mentioned, those things run mid to high 15's stock. Very light and actually take well to mods. Theres one around here where I live that has exhaust, intake, and header and runs like a 9.7 or so in the 1/8. Be careful and dont take him for granted.

I just bought an 04 Pontiac Sunfire to save me gas. It has the 2.2 ecotec and that engine is very strong for a 4 cylinder. I raced my wife in her 04 Grand Prix GT and stayed right with her. Her car has the 200hp 3800 V6. After buying it I had a few questions about it and I went over to the j-body message board. That is a board for sunfires and cavaliers. Alot of guys on that board were running mid to high 15's with the stock ecotec and 5 speed.

Yep, its j-body.org. Your right about the ecotec, its a strong engine. I seen in a magazine once that GM modded it and got a ton of power out of it. I think its the best GM 4 banger yet. I don't know if that is saying much, since all the cars on this board have V6 and V8 engines.
