I just learned that it is bad for a late model Mustang fuel pump to run with less than a 1/4 tank of gas. Does anybody consider this, I mean we take out the spare tire but the difference between a full tank and empty could be 100 lbs, do you guys figure this at the racetrack?

where did you hear that from and why would it be bad for it? It's set in the bottom of the tank so it's gonna suck gas until the tank is completely dry. Don't listen to stupid people. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></p>

I read it on another thread on this forum- stated that fuel is needed to lubricate and cool the fuel pump, less than 1/4 tank would shorten life of fuel pump was what was said, oh well cant believe all you read.

 

the fuel is needed to cool the pump right but your not going to drive 4-5 hours on a 1/4 tank of gas right? I FILL MINE up on sunday by friday I have a 1/4 tank to go play on sat, sunday

Well, depending on grade a gallon of gas weighs anywhere from 5.8 to 6.5 pounds. Seeing as how a stock Mustang uses 87 octane, we'll go with the lightest amount...5.8 pounds</P>


How much does a GT hold? I went to Ford.com and it said 15.7 gallons.</P>


5.8 pounds*15.7 gallons=91.06 pounds of gasoline when it's full.</P>


3/4 tank would weigh 68.295 lbs</P>


half tank would weigh 45.53 lbs</P>


1/4 tank would weigh 22.765 lbs</P>


Almost a 70 lb difference will help to reduce the ETs, but not by much, but the other part of it is you also don't have that extra 70 lbs sloshing around.</P>
