02 Supercharged GT vs 1970 426 Hemi Cuda
Last night, I had the race of my dreams. However, It turned out to be more than I could handle. Don't get me wrong, I am running a well built and maintained 02 GT with 13k in parts and around 117 man hours into it. Included is a built AODe Tranny with 3200 stall converter, wide ratio gear set, shift kit, valve body mods and harden shaft. My 02 4.6 2V is running 12 psi of Aftercooled boost for 396 rwhp and 399 lbs of torque which is fully achieved at 2900 rpm.
Anyway, there is this 1970 Hemi Cuda with a 426ci engine running around every now and then. No body knows who this person is or where he comes from. Once in a while, he makes a late night appearence on the boulevard. All I heard was a few amazing stories that I didn't believe.
It was shortly after 1 am. I was at the light with my music turned up. Then I heard his loud loping engine rumble. I turned. It was the Black Cuda sporting Hemi badges. I looked at him and he looked at me and noticed that I am a girl. He just shook his head. This guy had on a racing helmet. Nice touch, I thought. Either he was truly mad or it was a silent statement what was very loud. He began to rev his engine with brakes applied. The Hemi sounded magnificent -- like nothing I ever heard before. It was on, I thought. This is it. The hairs began to stick up on back of my neck and I began to breath heavy. I hit my Autometer Cobalt D-Pic on 1/4 time and rev my little engine to about 3000 rpm - just before the wheels would break.
Luckly, I just put on a new set of Mickey Thompson Drag Radials the other day. But it didn't matter. As the light turned green, the Cuda's front end raised high off the ground! He got an instant 3 cars off me out of the hole. It quickly grew to 6. My Stang tried to hang, but it's efforts were futile and in vain. The Cuda's lead grew to about 15 and ultimately to about 20 or so car lengths before he hit the brakes and and turned off and disappeared down a side street.
My D-Pic read 11:73 in the 1/4 mile at 121mph.
This guy didn't even want his props -- just turned off and disappeared. I was totally awe struck. How much power was he making? How fast was his time? It was at least 20 cars, maybe a tad more.

A guy prowling the streets in a solid 6-figure 426 Hemi 'Cuda while wearing a racing helmet? And you just happened to roll up on one another at a place where you have room to run it out to over 120 mph? And he pulled a wheelstand on the street?
This is the most surrealistic racing story I have ever read. Good death.

Pretty intense death story Janine. This guy sounds like he's tryin to make an urban legend outta himself. Driving around a probably 8 or 9 second Hemi Cuda on the streets late at nite wearin a helmet.........sounds like a movie script idea in the making. Seriously tho, if this guy is out there embarrassing 11 second cars on the street "for the helluvit", I would be proud just to have run against him. Awesome run...
