Default Need Help With SVO

I just got a 1986 SVO and I have two maybe related problems. 1) When the engine is cold, it doesn't want to idle. 2) The engine bogs down off the line and at low RPMs. Once it gets going, WOW!!!

My first thought (being an old timer) was vacuum advance so I checked the distributer. No vacuum line. Now I'm a little lost because I don't have any wireing diagrams to follow.

Please help so I can fix it before my next AutoX on Sunday.

The SVO is an awsome car. the rough idle when its cold you may need to get a tune up but those cars take a little bit to warm up. as for bogging down at low rpms and the lag is because that car is a 4 cylinder with a turbo and the turbo gives it most all its kick and the turbo does not really open up until closer to 3k rpms. those are more of a high rev car, it does not have the raw v8 power to push it at low rphs. turbos have some lag unlike a supercharger that has instant power. the SVO was made more for a slalom racing than a straight away

Thanks for the reply.

The car was tuned recently (before I got it) and I haven't had time to check it yet.

As far as the bogging, this is NOT turbo lag (not my first turbo 4). When I started off the line, I revved it to 2500 and let out the clutch. I thought it was going to die for a bout 2 seconds. After a tight S turn in second gear, it did the same thing.

idle air control or throttle position sensor can cause similar issues to that, you should check into getting them replaced or at least clean the iac with carb cleaner and adjust the tps

Thanks. I have to replace the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets so I will do that at the same time. There are also some original heater hoses that started to leak so I'll be busy for a while.
