Look for the signs..

1) Look at the engine.. Does it have a Cobra intake and a lable that says Its a 'Cobra and built by so and so.'
2) Look at the interior.. The stearing wheel should say Cobra on it..
3) When looking at the engine look under the hood, at the heat pad and see if it has Corba on it..
4) Call Ford..

Most people will put on Cobra bumpers, rims and even badges.. However, 99% of the people won't change the intake, the stearing wheel or even the floor mats.. That should help you alot.. Calling Ford is a sure bet though..

Need Fords number? Do a google search or call a local dealer ship and explain to them what you want to do..

If you are loking at 1996 and up Cobra's the engine will be a 4.6L DOHC (dual over head cam 32V) and will have a plate on of the valve covers signed by the engine builders that built it at Ford. A made up GT will have a 4.6L SOHC.

If it's a 99-01 cobra, you can check several places. The number one change is the rear end. Those Cobras have an IRS. The guages are also different. I know the seats in the 01 Cobras are also different than a GT. The 96 and up Cobras did have a 32 Valve DOHC motor. You should be able to tell by the size of the valve covers and the intake. The 96 and up GTs have a plastic intake manifold too. If it is a GT, there should be a running horse on the intake plenum. I believe the front rotors on the 96 and up Cobras are also substantially larger then the GTs of any year. I also believe they have COBRA on the front calipers. Hopefully, this will help you determine if it is a true snake or not!

The letter V in the VIN # is the quickest way. Each modle mustang has a different letter to signfy the type of Mustang. he engine is hand built has the Cobra sitting right on the top. There is a small plate on the left cylinder head with the two signtures of the builders of that engine. 7000 RPM Redline. 13.5 inch rotors in the from with Cobra Calipers. There are a slew of ways to tell the easiest and quickest is the VIN. It don't lie.

PS this was assuming 99/01 Cobra. 03/04 very similar

go to the above link for info on every model year. Good stuff.
