Default check engine light :( HELP???

I recently bought a 98 cobra conv. It has 40,000 miles and was completly stock until friday. I had an off-road x-pipe installed with 40 series flowmasters and no cats off course. It sounded an ran fine till this morning the stinkin light came on!! I went to a speed shop and bought o2 sensor elliminators before the installation of the exhaust to prevent this. Any input would be appreciated. Im a newbie here to this great forum. Thanks

MAKE SURE THAT THE MIL ELIMINATORS ARE PLUGGED INTO THE REAR 2 O2 SENSORS. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE GO TO MOST PARTS STORES AND THE CODES READ WITH A OBDII CODES READER FOR FREE. HOPE THAT HELPS.

From everything I've read the MIL eliminators or only a temp. fix.. Might want to look into a SCT tuner to fix the problem.. But, thats about $400..

Did you disconnect the neg battery cable before the install? Leave it off for 30 minutes or so. If not, try that before buying anything else. I've used several sets of MIL's over the years and I swear they work about half the time.

+1 for the tuner! I just bought a Diablo Predator from Summit Racing for $400. A little spendy, but if you get a MIL, plug it in and clear it. You can also completely shut off the OBDII test function or just turn your CEL light 'off' for good.

I HIGHLY recommend some type of Wideband O2 sensor w/ gauge to go with it, so you don't run too lean and damage your motor.

I had the same issue with the eliminators(they dont work). Bought SCT X3 and they asked me what was done to the car then they program the tune thereself. All you have to do is plug it in.CAUTION my car runs better but now im fighting the front o2
