I talked to some other 01 owners and they havent had to much problem. I think i'm the only one i've found to break the axle in stock trim
first time i broke it i was shifting to 2nd... rear gave out and broke the axle. Second time was from a hole shot, barely any hop then the axle broke. woo hoo ...could be a fluke, or i'm hard on cars, who knows.
Solid axle would be nice but I plan on SCCA this season. Thats the only reason i dont want to give up the IRS.

 

yeah, my bro was bone stock in his 03 cobra when his snapped. it was an easy launch, but when it crosses 4k rpm, it starts hopping, then snap!! Keep us posted.

 

this maybe a stupid question but what does your car do when you snap an axle does it like fall to the ground

 

Well, when my bro busted his axle in his 03 cobra, it pretty much went like this:
He launched it easy, but when he crossed 4000 rpm, it started wheelhopping and then a loud pop. He just rolled down the track, and they pulled him off to the side. It just revvs and doesn't go anywhere. When I got in it, it was stopped and I put it in gear, and slowly let the clutch out but it just sat there like it was in neutral, but it was in first. It didn't move, didn't stall or anything. The axle was just snapped, nothing came out or fell off, no weird sounds, just wouldn't go anywhere.

 

after i destroyed the axle in mine, if it were in gear and trying to go it would sound like grinding metal coming from the rear of the car. good times

 

the springs and bushings have arrived. i'll try to get them in tomorrow or the next.
