CAI Question
I am looking to add a CAI, headers and exhaust to my Cobra. My question is, in you guys opinion, which is the best CAI for the money. Second question with the basic bolts on to improve air flow going in and going out. Is it necessary to get a tune for the Cobra. Or can you add these parts without a tune? Thanks for your input.
Tronix, let me ask you, I see in your stats, that you are running a K&N CAI and Magnaflow exhaust. I was thinking of getting the Magna Flow or the Borla. I knwo the Borla is $$$$. are you happy with the Magna Flow. I have heard it's the next best exhaust you can get for your car after the Borla. Also is the K&N the whole Pipe. From the Thorttle Body to the Filter. OR is it just the Filter that bolts on at the MAF.
I love my magnaflow!! The mufflers are a straight through design for improved airflow. And they are not obnoxiously loud!! At idle and regular driving, the car sounds mellow. When you nail the throttle, it roars!! As far as CAI goes, they are all close in comparison. The only one I didn't like on my vehicle was the Densecharger, it made the car surge. I have the C&L inlet pipe with a 10" K&N attached to the MAF.(Metco CAI) This seems to work great with high boost applications. Somtimes when you stick a filter in the fender and leave the MAF meter on the fender well, it will create a surge in the airflow. I have also heard good things about the JLT CAI.
Definently get a tuner, or if you have the money, get some dyno time and a chip to fine tune your ride. Cobras are sensitive to changes, in a good way, but the A/F needs to be consistant and presice or say bye bye to engine. With simple CAI and catback, you should be good, but once you add a pulley, mid pipe, T/B, and plenum, your A/F will change dramatically. I think all CAI's are good, but some have their own oppinion. Some think that putting the filter in the fenderwell (like a JLT) is better to get a colder, denser charge, while others think that the 90 degree turn will throw off the mass air meter. Some also think that polished ones (like BBK) will absorb the heat and increase the charge even though they are beautiful. I personally have the K&N which I love, but I wish they would have included a full length tube to complement the meter forward part. It's all up to you. Hope that helps!
Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will let you guys know how it went when I get the upgrades. I also need to finding a tunning shop in Jacksonville Florida, IF you guys have any suggestions I am open. Thanks again.
