Hello I was referred to come to this section for a quiestion. I am trying to find a Cobra. The most I can pay is 9,000 give or take a little. I found a 99 cobra. It looked pretty nice and the thing is the owner said it was in a light collision. Im trying to get carfax on it and said it had 14 records on it. Which can be good or bad. I am skeptical on buying it no matter what the carfax says. If its been in a wreck don't you think its a bad idea. I really cant get a lemon this time. Thats why my vette is going. Way to much wrong. He said 8500 and now hes asking whats your best offer. I say eight is good but then again I am leaning towards finding another cobra. Is there a realative good chance that I can find a Cobra thats in the high 90s for 9,000. Dont get me wrong this car is beautiful, sounds great, interior is like new. He said it was "converted" to true duals. I thought Cobras came stock with true dual but I may be wrong. All opinions would be appreciated...Thanks...
Well Vette driver... good show in moving over to the Cobra. I would be really sceptical about that deal on that Cobra. Not because the price and year don't gel, but because the Cobra does come with true and full dual exhaust for every year that I am familiar with, going back to the 90's (and even most of the 80's). I can tell you my story... I bought my first "97 cobra with about 25,000 miles on it several years ago for 15 grand. That car has been solid and I have abused it as well. No problems to speak of. Now it has 67,000 miles on it and going like it did when I bought it (minus the modifications that I have done). It just seems to get better all of the time... So, about a year ago I bought another '97 cobra with 130,000 miles on the clock for a project and as a daily driver so as to keep the miles down on the origional one. This cobra came into my hands for 5,000 dollars because it had some problems. I thought that that would be just right for what I wanted. It turned out that the car had been in a "minor" accident... I have had to get the frame straitened, but it is still making a popping noise when I put a lot of torque on the front end... And I have replaced every moving part on the car as well... So, what seemed like a nice little project has turned into a pain in the bass that has gone on for a year now. Not to mention the dollars that it has taken to get it this far... My opinion is that if you find one that was kept up well, with no or few mods, for a reasonable price, then jump on that. I don't think that 10,000 dollars is too much out of the question for a Cobra (pre-2000) that will run you for another 100,000 miles with little to no problems. They really are a well made car... That is if you take some kind of care of it... Good luck, and post some pictures once you get one.
Well before anyone else tells you i will be the first. the 99 cobra had some recalls, not major but some people like to differ. All they did when i took my cobra to the fatory is they retuned the computer......put a new exhaust on it. Anyway you can fix it with some of the mods you do yourself like a catback exhaust, and a tuner. Then you will be fine. Also my cobra was in a minor accident as well. It is fine they replaced the whole rear end and it looks and feels better then before. They put the 01 bumper on so it says cobra( the 99 cobra bumpers said "mustang") they also put some saleen body parts on it. I also had them replace all of the bushings in the back with energy polyurathane and steeda ones. Ok back to the original question should you take a chance on a wrecked corba. I would say no. When my cobra was rear ended i was there watching every step they took. I know exactly what they did. So i would say no.
