H@R Springs/10.5" wheels HOWS MY CLEARANCE GONNA BE??????
Ive got a 99 Cobra. Just installed my H@R springs (1.6F 1.5R) last weekend. Ordered Pirelli 275 40 17 tires and new wheels will be here in a few days. After putting the springs in I noticed that the car seems to be much lower than I desired in the rear (two finger clearance between tire and fenderwell with a bald tire). I need to know if my new tires are going to rub the fenderwell cause I ordered 10.5" wide for the rear and wider tires as I mentioned above. Please leave input if you know anybody or have the same setup as myself, so I will know what to expect. I cant afford to have my fenderwell cutting into my new meats for the rear as they did not come cheap. Thanks for the input!!!
I've had some rubbing with a similar setup on my 04 cobra. A ton of people have talked about rolling the fender to prevent the rub. It's usually a very quick thing when you hit a large drop. It sucks but the traction is so much better. I've also thought about putting an isolator back in.
just to let you know I have 315's nitto DR's on a 10.5 in rim in the back and I measured it to see how wide the tire is on the rim. I got 12 inches so and mine are REALLLLLLY close to rubbing but, just enough that they don't but, I also have a 96 so its a totally different body style.
Rolling the fender is done with a tool to allow for more clearance. The isolators go on either side of the spring and are made of rubber. They are just like bushings to keep from having metal to metal contact. They can be taken out though to provide a little extra drop.
Thanks for the help!! The wheels should be here tomorrow so in the next day or two I should know if Im gonna have any probs with the setup. Ill post some pics when installed.
I got the wheels in a couple days ago and everything is on. I had no problems with the setup. Just had enough clearance and everything fit great. I would definately recomend H@R springs to any one who is going with a similar setup. I wouldnt go with more than a 1.5" drop in the rear if your planning on 10.5" wide wheels in the rear that would most certainly cause clearance issues!!!
Well my dog decided that our camera was his new toy so It might be a bit on those pics but once I get them Im gonna post a forum to see what everyone thinks..
